  • Facing difficulty in pf settlement

Looking for the ways to withdraw your PF balance amount? Know detailed procedure from here.

I had been working in a Pvt Ltd company since 2018. I left that company in the month of March 2022. In February 2022, Company at which I was working got merged. Before February 2022 company was maintaining PF under PF trust. And after the merge, Balances of Pf trust were to be transferred to EPFO.

For your information, i have joined in a new company. I want to withdraw my Pf. But they are not transferring my PF balance in the Pf account after several mail, by phone and messages. I think they do not want to let this amount. Almost 6 months have been passed, but they are giving only date.

Please advice what should i do for further action.

  • You might have been given UAN number while enrolling you under provident fund, (you can see your uan number in your payslip). With that UAN number you yourself can login in to EPFO member portal by providing your UAN number. (If you have already updated your UAN with password etc.) If not, you can update your new password through forget password - by giving your mobile number. You then see the passbook in that website after login. Then you can apply for withdrawal online itself no need to contact employer etc., by providing your bank account number etc., as asked in the website while applying withdrawal online.
Alternatively you can send your application in the attached format to the pf office (under which your company's pf account got transferred after the trust- merging) directly by post after filling up the details and attaching self attested documents as required.

  • Every time when a person changes the organization the allotment of EPF ID is different. But UAN or Universal Account Number link all such PF account IDs that belong to one individual. And through the portal after signing by using your UAN and password you can transfer it online mode. But previously your pf is maintained through PF trust which is also allowed by EPFO. But under this situation, you need to verify the following prerequisites before processing.

    1. Your UAN is active on the EPF portal.
    2. Link your aadhaar to your registered mobile number.
    3. Link Aadhaar with UAN.
    4. Link the bank account to UAN. The same has to be verified by the employer also.
    5. Make sure your KYC is verified.
    6. Make sure Old and new PF numbers are saved in EPFO under your UAN.
    7. The registered mobile given for activation of UAN should be active as you will be receiving OTP in that no for transferring PF funds online.
And ensure old and new employers have registered their authorized digital signatures in the portal.

If the above is not satisfied then you need to transfer in offline mode and for this:
Download the claim form (Form 13).
You need to fill out Form 13 and submit it to the HR/Personnel dept. of the old employer with all relevant documents. After verification two letters will be issued by the old employer, one for your new employer and another to EPFO enclosing a cheque that mentions your total amount along with the yearly statement of your PF/ FP details since you are joining or becoming a member. Hence in that case you should physically visit your previous employer. I think you will understand.

  • These days PF settlement has become very easy and you can do it online. Once an account is opened in PF, you will get a UAN number. It will not change even though your change your organisation. The organisation will also have a UAN number. So that only will change when you change your organisation. You can log in to the EPFO site and see whether the amount that you have in your earlier organisation is appearing in that or not. You can transfer online from one account to the new account using your Aadhaar number and OTP to your registered mobile number.
If the amount is in PF trust also, the same procedure can be adopted.
If your earlier employer has not deposited your amount in your account, you can lodge a complaint in the concerned PF office. It is better to go to the PF office and meet the concerned person and explain the problem to him so that he will advise you on the course of action.

  • I have also faced a similar situation in the past. I wanted to withdraw my PF balance, but my previous employer was not responding then i decided to make a request to transfer the PF balance but it remained pending. I even visited PF and previous employer office, but it was in vain.

After facing silent treatment for about 6 months. I reached out to my current HR, and he asked me to first submit an PF transfer request by logging onto EPF portal and mark it to be approved by current employer. It took them just 24 hours to approve it then it was sent to PF office for verification. PF office took about 10 working days and the balance got transferred to my new PF account. As I needed money at that time, I went to EPF portal again and submitted a request for PF advance which was processed within 7 working days.

If you do not have an account with EPF then you can create very easy using Activate UAN link. You can find your UAN number on your payslip. You will also need a cancelled cheque of the bank account registered with EPFO. I would suggest you to follow the same route of first transfer and then withdrawal as the current employer will be more responsive in these matters.

  • There has been a lot of improvement in PF transactions especially in online and everything is under EPFO office. Still there are some deficiencies and glitches in the system and whenever people are shifting from one organisation to other they are facing some short of problem in transferring those PF amounts to the relevant account of the person. It is obvious that individual has to take some steps to get those hurdles removed.
First thing is UAN number because that is the main identity under which transactions would be done.
I will advise you to go to your earlier employer and ask them to deposit the amount in EPFO under that UAN number. If they face some problem and tell that your account is not activated and giving rejection for any action from their side then you have to activate your account using a mobile number and OTP process. Please ensure to create a password so that you can use the system later also. Of course system will prompt you to do so.
You may have to give an application to your old organisation for this as they will like to have your credentials so that amount does not go to a wrong account or gets rejected by the system.
Same UAN number and other details are to be submitted to your new organisation so that they can also deposit your present PF in that. Please check with them whether they are already doing that or keeping your PF money temporary with them till your account is activated.
Today the digital governance is becoming a part of many activities in our lives and the role of subscriber or individual has increased significantly and until you make your account active and complete in all respect the companies can make some excuses that system is not accepting the transaction. So check all these things thoroughly and then hammer them with all the details.

  • Whenever an employee shifts his organisation for the better scope or due to varied reasons, the PF amount standing in his balance would be required to be credited in the PF balance of the existing organisation so that the entire fund remains under the same account but sometimes the contributors face difficulties in such an unified process due to non support of UAN. The employees may request their past employer to take care of this point. If some glitches are seen during the activating process, the same is to be corrected.
The existing employer should be requested to deposit the PF contributions in the same UAN number so that the corpus remains in the single fund for its easy identification of the entire fund.
Though in theory, it looks simple but the different issues are encountered during the rectification process, the employees would do their best to remain with contact with both the organisations to identify the obstacles and as such they have to pinpoint the lacunae and should take steps accordingly.
