    My brother has completed 12th standard with a minimum of 50% aggregate and he has passed his engineering entrance exam. He is shortlisted for merit admission too. Please give some suggestions about the fee structure and the minimum cut-off marks for admission to marine engineering.

  • BE or B Tech in marine engineering. The procedure for admission will be the same for all the branches of Engineering. Marine Engineering is a branch of engineering. So the procedure will be as follows.
    1. You should complete your 10 +2 or intermediate or equivalent examination with Mathematics and Physical Science with a minimum of 55% marks. For reserved categories, the percentage of marks required may be less.
    2. Students interested in joining this course should apply for the entrance test. JEE or EAMCET examination, which are common for all engineering admission.
    3. Based on the rank obtained and the percentage of marks obtained, you may get into a college. The best rank holder will have a better chance to get into standard colleges. It all depends on the rank obtained.
    4. The fee structure varies from college to college. If a person gets a seat in the government quota, the fee may be less. A person who takes admission as per the management quota. the fee may be more. It may vary between a few thousand to a few lakhs.

  • Marine Engineering is a branch of Engineering dealing with construction and operation of mechanical equipments related to crafts, docks and harbour institutions. Marine Engineering Graduates should be able to design, build and maintain the structures around the areas of postings.
    Following is the eligibility criteria for this course-
    1) At least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics apart from minimum 50% marks in English at their 10+2 level in their recognised Boards.
    2) The aspirants have to qualify the entrance examination essential for both UG and PG level.
    3) Prominent Institutions have their age criteria for induction of their courses but there are other institutions where admission is possible with a higher fee structure in the management quota cadre but not adherence to age limit. Aspirants might be inducted with their impressive marks at 10+2 level.
    4) In the prominent institutions such as IIT, Cochin University, Andhra University etc, the aspirants have to qualify the Entrance Test set for screening the aspirants.
    5) In order to be inducted in IIT, candidates would be required to qualify JEE mains and JEE Advanced so as to inducted in the UG course. This would be the best course to pursue since the employment opportunities multiply.
    6) Apart from IIT mains, Andhra University, Cochin University, Parul University, Indian Martine University Kolkata offer Marine Engineering programmes having their own set of written and oral tests.
