  • How is Duolingo for learning different languages?

Looking for reviews of Duolingo and how effective it is to help ou learn a new language? Check out the feedback from this Ask Expert page and know whether or not you need to use the paid option to learn better.

I am keen to learn at least two major European languages in the future. It is a part of the to-do task after my retirement, although I may start learning even before that. I have come to know that Duolingo is a good website for learning various languages.

In this connection, I would like to know the following-
    (1) How helpful and effective is Duolingo for the purpose of learning foreign languages?
    (2) Is the Duolingo free option sufficient or should I go for a paid option?
    (3) Does a language learner need additional resources (other than that from Duolingo) to learn a new language?

    Kindly furnish a point-wise reply.

  • 1. Duolingo deals with many foreign languages. They designed their courses in such a way that the student will get interested in learning the language. The candidate can obtain the reading, listening, and speaking skills through their lessons which are effective and efficient. teach. The faculty is qualified and experienced. The individual candidate will be taken care and lessons will be made as per the requirement of the individual. There will be exercises and quiz programmes etc to see that all the candidates are learning the right way. My personal feeling is that it is a good destination for learning some foreign languages. My brother's son did German Language course from here.
    2. Free option is ok but for a fast and better understanding some paid versions may be better. It all depends on the individual and his requirements.
    3. I think no additional resources are required except your time and concentration.

  • In relation to the the questions asked by the author, following are my answers-
    1) Duolingo can be great for learning a foreign language but there is no guarantee that the aspirants would attain the desired proficiency level in the real world situations where so many skills are needed such as fluency in the language both in oral and written modes. The aspirants lack the skills to choose the correct words fitting to the situations due to lack of appropriate vocabularies in their learning process.
The practical solution lies in maintaining communication with your friends or coaching teachers- not connected with Duolingo to attain more efficiency levels in the language which one is eager to learn effectively.
    2) Free options can be ideal options for the beginners but it would not take the aspirants too far in grasping the language being practiced from their ends. The Duolingo session might be helpful to kids but not for adults for their greater commands for the languages being pursed.
Though in the free session, they employ different tricks such as flash cards, images, listening and writing lessons to inspire the aspirants to learn new words, phrases and tricks for developing skills in both oral and communication techniques but learning could have more comfortable with a regular coach who can take pains to make their learning process more lucid and effective with the regular interaction.
    3) In most of the major cities, there are learning centres providing training in the foreign languages such as Germany, Russian, English, French etc where the aspirants would be more benefited with the painstaking exercises of their tutors. They are aware of the psychology of learners and would hammer the points absolutely needed for the aspirants.

  • Duolingo's lessons are designed to be short and manageable, making it easy to fit language learning into your daily routine. The app also includes a variety of interactive exercises, such as translation, listening, and speaking, to help users practice different aspects of the language. Additionally, Duolingo uses spaced repetition, which helps users to remember new words and phrases by reviewing them at increasing intervals.

Duolingo also has a feature of daily goals, which help users to track their progress and stay motivated. Users can also earn points and compete with friends to see who can make the most progress.

Overall, Duolingo is a great tool for beginners who want to learn a new language. However, it's worth noting that Duolingo alone may not be enough to become fluent in a language, and it's recommended to supplement it with other resources like reading, listening, speaking, or taking classes.

The free version of Duolingo can be a great resource for anyone who wants to learn a new language, but it may not be sufficient for those who want to become fluent. The free version has limited content and features compared to the paid version, Duolingo Plus. It is worth considering upgrading to Duolingo Plus if you're serious about becoming fluent in a language, as it offers additional features such as ad-free lessons, offline access, and access to all course content.
