  • What documents are verified during UPSC interviews for EWS candidates

Will you soon be appearing for a UPSC interview as an EWS category candidate? Quickly find out what is the list of documents that would be verified so that you are well-prepared beforehand.

As an EWS candidate appearing for a UPSC job interview, I would like to know which documents are required for the verification process during the interview round. Is the ITR required? Or is the EWS certificate with income proof sufficient? Also, what actually happens during document verification and how long does it take? Do I need to bring all certificates which I mentioned while filling up the application form? I would like guidance as it would be best to have clarity prior to appearing for the interview.

  • The government has introduced 10% reservation for the candidates for the general candidates under EWS categories considering their weaker purchasing powers. The aspirants have to fulfil the following requirements as indicated below-
    1) They must belong to General Candidates. ( Not included under reservation of ST/ SC/ OBC)
    2) Family income should not exceed beyond Rs 8,000000 ( Rs Eight Lakhs)
    3) They would be required to produce certificate showing that aspirant's family is not enjoying land beyond five acres under the possession of his family.
    4) The aspirants don't have the residential plots exceeding 200 sq feet area or more other than the notified municipal areas.
    5) The family of the aspirants must not have a flat containing area more than 1000 sq feet.
The aspirants need to procure EWS Certificate issued by the following authorities-
    1) District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/ First Class Magistrate / Subdivisional Magistrate or the equivalent authority.
    2) Revenue Officer not below Tehsildar.
    3) SDO of the area where family of the aspirant resides.

  • 1. The candidate who is appearing for the interview may not have any income. So he will not have any ITR. The EWS reservation talks about the income of the family and it includes the fixed assets one has. So ITR may not serve the purpose and the applicant need not show any ITR. An EWS certificate issued by a competent authority is very much required and that will be sufficient for you to show that you will come under EWS.
EWS talks about family income and here a family consists of
Candidate, Candidate's Parents, Candidate's Siblings below the age of 18 years, Candidate's Spouse and
Candidate's Children below the age of 18 years. The total income of the family will be considered.

    2. During the document verification process, all the documents in their original will be inspected by a competent authority and see any deficiencies or differences in the copies you have submitted from the originals. If there are any discrepancies chances of rejecting the candidature will be there. The entire process of document verification may take about an hour. But it is better to keep that whole day free as we don't know when our term comes.

    3. You have to carry the originals of all the certificates copies of which are to be enclosed in your application form. Original certificates of all educational qualifications, experience certificates, EWS certificates, original caste certificates (if applicable), original proof of residence, original proof of age, and other certificates mentioned in the call letter or originals of all copies sent with your application are to be carried with you for their verification. Aadharr card and Pan card are also to be carried.
