  • A combined defence service examination will be conducted by UPSC twice a year. The examination pattern is of two types.
    1. Candidates who wanted to write the examination for Admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy have to attend three papers in the written test and then the SSB test& Interview
Paper 1: English. The duration of the test is 2 Hours and the paper is for 100 marks.
Paper2: General Knowledge: The duration of the test is 2 Hours and the paper is for 100 marks
Paper 3: Mathematics: The duration is 2 Hours and the maximum marks are 100
The candidates who qualified in the written test have to attend SSB Test/Interview. The total process will take 5 days and the maximum marks will be 300.
    2. Candidates who wanted to appear for Admission to the Officers' Training Academy will not have any mathematics paper. They will have English, General Knowledge and then an SSB test and interview.

The examination is not difficult for non-science students but science students will have an advantage as there will be some questions related to science also in the GK paper.
