CBSE v/s IGCSE - which one is better to do in Grade 11?

Your daughter is already in a school offering an IGCSE syllabus. Now she is in her 10th class. You want to change her schools after the 10th class. The following are the points you should think about before making a decision.
1. CBSE syllabus is very popular in India and the syllabus is the same all over the country. There are some Indian schools opened abroad offering the same syllabus. Even though there is a change in place of your employment there will not be a problem because there are many schools all over the country, and Schools offering IGCSE are fewer in number.
2. In the CBSE syllabus the students should choose subject combinations in their stream only. But in IGCSE there is a variety of subjects. There are no stream restrictions.
3. CBSE is having a fixed prescribed syllabus nationwide. But as IGCSE is valid worldwide and the syllabus is not fixed. There will be more options to select textbooks and reference books.
4. CBSE offers both English and Hindi mediums. But IGCSE is only English medium.
5. CBSE is recognized by the Indian government and follows only the NCERT curriculum. IGCSE is established by the University of Cambridge International examinations. It has recognition worldwide.
6. IGCSE offers more than 70 subjects. So, students can opt for subjects according to their interests. There are no stream restrictions. Every subject is designed keeping the requirement across to globe in mind,
7, CBSE follows NCERT books. IGCSE students can have a number of options to select books based on the subjects they have opted for.
8. CBSE conducts certificate examinations after the 10th class and 12th classes. But IGCSE conducts Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary 1 and 2.
9. CBSE is good for students who keep on changing their place of residence within India. Coaching and guidance are easily available.
10. IGCSE schools are fewer. But it is good for students who want to study abroad. They concentrate more on knowledge than marks. Concentrates more on sciences, commerce, languages and humanities. But difficult to get tutors and coaching centres.

In the case of your daughter, as she is already in IGCSE school, I suggest you continue her with the same curriculum.

As mentioned above, you want to change your school but you are confused about choosing the CBSE board. At present your daughter is studying the IGSCE board. As per my knowledge, CBSE is very easy to compare to other boards. Average students can handle this board. It is recognized by the government of India and follows NCERT books. It is common all over India and you will find it in schools all over India. You can get tuition and coach easily. Whereas, IGCSE is established by the University of Cambridge International examinations. It has recognition worldwide. This school board is very less in number. It is good for those who want to study abroad. It offers many subjects. So, you can opt for subjects according to your interests. Stream restriction is not there. You will feel difficulty in getting tuition and coaching classes. Once you ask your daughter in which subject she has an interest. According to interest, you choose your board.

Whether it is IGCSE or CBSE curriculum, the basic syllabus will be same. For a good student both the systems will be acceptable. But for a mediocre student depending on convenience one system might look better than other. Unfortunately, studying and scoring is not a matter of convenience. There could be differences in the modalities and text books in these two systems but scoring good marks will be equally difficult.
What I would advise is that instead of comparing the pros and cons of these two systems, one should start serious studies and concentrate in the subjects of interests and make a career path right from this stage so that the utility of this hard work reflects later in some competitive exam.
Please note that many students from ordinary schools under state Govt model qualify in IAS and other apex examinations. So what matters is not the type of school but the individual efforts of the students.
A student should be clear about his or her interest subjects and focus in that for jumping to a career.
I have seen some students who after doing a law course from the top University of India found that law was not their subject of interest. Talking to CBSE, it is one of the most popular board in terms of its acceptance from the student- community but in contrast IGCSE brings the entire world to India since the students passing out from this pattern can have their access in any country of the world because of inclusion of varied subjects not included in the CBSE pattern.

1) The aspirants in CBSE Board can select subject combinations with the limited subjects in the different streams but provisions are there to ensure the best help books and guides of the different writers are available affordable to students apart from easy guidance of the teachers.
For the students continuing IGCSE Board, they would lack such books on cheap rates.
2) In case of shifting from one place to another, the students would not face any problems relating to their admissions where as for the aspirants choosing IGSCE may not be fortunate to that extent because of non existent such schools in major locations in India.
3) Fees of CBSE are affordable where as IGCSE, the fees are not that much pocket friendly for all the aspirants.
4) Coaching of CBSE pattern is easily accessible in most of the locations but in IGCSE mode competent teachers might not be available everywhere.
5) CBSE offers both English and Hindi as medium of instruction whereas IGCSE pattern offers exclusively English as the medium of instruction.

Ultimately, the choice between CBSE and IGCSE depends on your personal goals and aspirations. If you plan to stay in India for higher education and are looking for a curriculum that provides a strong foundation in Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies, then CBSE may be the right choice for you. However, if you plan to study abroad or are looking for a more holistic education that includes a wide range of subjects, then IGCSE may be the better choice.
