What happended to Congress ? Why it is being routed out systematically ?

After seeing the just pouring election results of WB, Assam, TN, and Kerala I really pity for the Congress party and its leadership. Where the past glory of the so called 125 year party has gone. Surely towering personalities like Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, are gone and Sonia cannot make much difference in the party and relying heavily on her son Rahul who seems to be ruining the party and not developing it. The Congress think tank must sit and review its setbacks so far, other wise BJP would consolidate its position even in NE region as it started its opening now. Over to Congress head quarters for some brain storming sessions ?

Congress will have to leave the dynastic politics to revive itself. Perhaps people are gradually drifting from congress because even within the family the leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi have been replaced by Rahul Gandhi like personalities. It is pity that the congress has to be led by Sonia Gandhi. There is a limit to the personality cult. It is right time for the congress to introspect and choose a leader of their own from within the Indian community. How a leader who cannot speak the language properly and has to read the scripted speeches is expected to lead one of the greatest countries of the world. However it is not that easy. It will take more time in getting the condition of congress further deteriorated before an internal revolt will take place and only then a new rejuvenated congress will emerge.
Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.

If you see the B.J.P position in U.P.A regime is exactly the same there is no vast difference between the two. Even B.J.P had not done any thing better in Assembly elections 2016 except in Assam which is a very small state. In next elections the Third formula + congress will play a vital role in forming the govt. at center because Modi as Prime minister completely failed. Diesel and Petrol prices gets hiked and essential commodities prices are sky high. The same Sonia Gandhi in UPA regime top in the forbes list and the most powerful women in the world shouted by the media and those noises were still in many of the ears. Its a political drama played by media and people are acting according to it.

Indian National Congress (INC) is now in a Catch-22 situation. The present top leadership (mother and son) is not at all capable and does not have the vote-catching ability of the previous leaders (including Nehru, Indira Gandhi and even Rajiv Gandhi). On the other hand, the party will simply disintegrate if any other person other than mother-son duo takes charge of the party, thanks to infighting and back-biting.

Only future can tell the future of the grand old party!

#564559 In 2004 and 2009 elections how they won the Loksabha elections do you think Manmohan singh (Rajyasabha MP) had brought congress into power or it was the troubleshooter Pranab mukherjee.

#564560: Good question. On the eve of 2004 election, Sonia Gandhi was then the new Congress President and Rahul was a comparatively untested, young representative of the party. Moreover, there was anti-incumbency factor against the then NDA Govt. Furthermore, Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Anthony and other regional leaders of the party played important roles in the UDA victory in 2004. The scope of detailed analysis of 2004 election is not available in this platform.

Congress party has a history. It is the party of selfless leaders who sacrificed their pleasures and wealth and family life for the independence of this country. The post independence leaders also were men of high calibre, knowledge and grass root level knowledge of this country, its problems. They were close to the people. There was no pettiness in their life and behaviour.

The present-day Congress, in spite of being a party that ruled the country for many decades does not have a democratic system of electing its own leaders at various levels. While the top most leaders come from one family, all others are mostly nominated by these leaders in guise of a consensus. authorisation. Sycophancy, flattery and caucus and umpteen groups at all local levels.

If the Congress party goes back to its democratic roots , I think still t can be salvaged and restored to its pristine position. Congress still has some good, popular grass root leaders at many levels.

Has Congress won Puducherry alone, or in coalition with DMK?

Of course, every dark cloud has a silver lining! it's all in the game. Let's not forget the past when Sonia Gandhi saved the sinking party and led the team as a leader of opposition in 1999. Reaching out to her opponents like Sharad Pawar and naming Manmohan Singh as PM was a strategic move by her in 2004. Though appeared to be mild, Dr.Singh has made India to come out of economic crisis and this helped the various state governments led by Congress in states like Haryana and United AP to continue their free sops to farmers.

Certain political blunders made by UPA including that of bifurcation of AP brought Congress to this stage. It may take some more time to get revived and the party should come out of sycophancy.

It is very difficult for Congress to revive to its past glory. In North India, it has lost its position to BJP. If we see Eastern cost, there is no existence of Congress in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and very soon it will be routed out from Telangana. Even Assam has gone to BJP. Only in Western coast, there is some existence of Congress.

#564581, Congress won 2009 elections because of Manmohan Singh and not because of Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi. People had lot of belief on Manmohan Singh at that time.

In Puduchery too Congress had alliance with DMK and could wrest the state with difficulty.
