Significance of Sharad PurnimaThe Autumn Season is the festive season for our country. It begins with the Dussera Festival. The Sharad Purnima or the full moon night after the Dussera has great religious significance for the people of West Bengal, Asom and Odisha.
On this day, the people of these states perform the puja of Goddess Laxmi with much enthusiasm. The Bengalees call it the Kojagori Laxmi Purnima. In most of the houses, people try to be awake the whole night as it is believed that on this day, Goddess Laxmi visits the houses where people are awake and shower Her blessings.
It is also the last full moon night before the winter sets in and envelopes the earth with its shroud of mist. A visit to the Taj Mahal on this night is a memorable experience.
