Important: Know when reserved train ticket can be transferredAll of us know that generally, the reserved ticket booked for a passenger cannot be transferred. However, Indian Railway allows transfer of reserved tickets in five cases. We must know these for our own convenience.
(a) A person can transfer the confirmed ticket to another family member (father, mother, sibling, child or spouse). For transfer of ticket, an application must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled departure of the train in which the ticket is reserved.
(b) If the passenger is a Government employee traveling on official duty, he can make a request for transfer of reservation to any other Government employee in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
(c) If the passengers are students of a recognized educational institution and if the head of the institution makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the reservation made in the name of any student can be transferred to any other student.
(d) If the passengers are members of marriage party and if the head of the party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, then the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party can be transferred to any other person.
(e) In case of a group of cadets of NCC, if the Officer leading the group, makes a request in writing at least 24 hours before the departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any cadet be transferred to any other cadet.
Please note that in the cases mentioned in (c), (d) and (e) above, Railway charges 10% of the cost of the ticket.
