Ultimately their courage and presence of mind have been recognized

On the morning of 7th July, 2008, these two Bravehearts were performing security duty just outside the Indian Embassy at Kabul. Suddenly, Constable Ajay Singh Pathania of ITBP noticed that a Land Rover was approaching the barrier. He knew the vehicle. It was carrying the Defence Attache' Brigadier RD Mehta and Counsellor V Venkateshwara Rao. But he also noticed that a Toyota Corolla was following the Embassy vehicle. He was very suspicious. He immediately alerted Constable Roop Singh about the vehicle.

Roop Singh immediately decided his course of action. Although the Embassy vehicle was waiting, he did not lift the anti-bomb hexa-barrier shut. The explosive-laden Toyota Corolla hit the Embassy Land Rover and there was a huge explosion. The Defence Attache' and the Counsellor died. So did these two Bravehearts. But they saved hundreds of life inside the Embassy building.

After long last, these two gallant ITBP personnel got their dues. Their bravery and presence of mind have been rewarded. They have been awarded Kirti Chakra, the second highest peacetime gallantry award, posthumously.

Let us pay our respect to these two brave ITBP personnel, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

It is the selection and training imparted, and the training received and practiced by the brave constables that saved the life of many by losing two. Their devotion to duty, alertness, presence of mind and their timely action should be appreciated.

We should pay our rich tributes to such people who sacrificed their lives for protecting the country and its assets and people. It is nice that the government realised their services and honoured them suitably. Thanks to the author for bringing out this thread about two Indian soldiers who never cared for their lives and tried to save huge losses to the country in any manner.

It is a matter of regret that their contribution has been recognized after ten long years. They should have been awarded the gallantry awards much earlier.

My tribute to those two bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for protecting the embassy. All the security forces are protecting us from their respective positions. Be it the borders or important locations, they are guarding round the clock without a break. To them, protecting and helping the countrymen come first and they never hesitate to lay down their lives for the cause of the nation.

Though it took some time for the government to announce the awards, may be because of some procedural delays, but their sacrifice never go in vain. All these brave men are remembered for their duties towards the nation, irrespective of being suitably awarded or not.
