Let us remember late Potti Sriramulu. The Andhra Pradesh State was bifurcated from the then Madras state in the year 1953 and the combined state of Andhra Pradesh formed on November 1st, 1956. This happened due to the sacrifice of a great man, Sri Potti Sriramulu. This man devoted the majority of his life to Harijan welfare work and propagation of Khadi and village industries.
Sri Sriramulu Potti started his fast on 19 October 1952 at Chennai for the formation of a separate Andhra state and died while fasting itself on the night of 15 December 1952. After his death only the then PM Nehru considered the formation of linguistic states in South India.
But unfortunately, the Telugu speaking people couldn't go together and again the AP has been divided into two states. Today is the formation day of linguistic states.
Let us pay tributes to this great man who sacrificed his life for the welfare of the Telugu speaking people.
