After making attempts only we know our deficiencies

Many people avoid making attempts for some new work or new contest or new venture or new project thinking that those might be below their talent level or knowledge. There are also times when they avoid attempting some new challenges because they feel that those are beyond their capabilities. In either case they lose an opportunity to test themselves.

Until unless we attempt new ideas and new tasks how can we measure ourselves against doing them successfully? Only after making the attempts we will be able to know where we stand. Even if we fail we will be able to gauge the bottlenecks and our deficiencies in achieving those goals.

So It is necessary to attempt without apprehensions as apprehensions are responsible for creating avoidance. Once we know our deficiencies then only we will be working in a direction to correct them.

It is very true that when we come to know our shortcomings then only we will be taking measures to overcome them. In essence we should not be afraid of attempting because that is the opportunity otherwise we are going to miss to know where we stand.

In fact successful people attempt everything whether tough or easy. They very well know that results will be only after that.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Without attempting for a thing we can't know where lagged that's true. Many times we get afraid of starting a particular thing but that's not good as by not doing that we dont know what difficulties we may face and ultimately we may not be doing that particular thing in future too.

Few people always scare of taking risks but they forget that people who take risks get more success than the people who dont. I personally dont take risks in life that's one of the main reason why i am behind of my friends. We should make a habit to take risks and face the things bodly. It's not that every risk may be harmful sometimes they come out to be very beneficial for us.

Yes, it is absolutely correct. There is a tendency of not trying something new among many people which is actually a drawback. It comes from the fear of failure. As long as you are not doing the thing, you do not know about the outcome and hence a great opportunity might be lost.

It's also not advisable to try something in which you have no idea at all. But many people, despite having a good knowledge about the venture dare to try it because they fear of failure. There is a tendency among us to think that what others might think if we fail. This thought process will always keep someone away from trying new things and all successful persons overcame this thought process to achieve their goals. So, people should never think of loosing the opportunity and must attempt new things without apprehending failure.

Every person should know his strong points and weak points. They should try to get required strengths in the areas where he feels he is lack of knowledge. Then he will become an allrounder and definitely his chances of winning in the life will be very high. Attempting all works without a full understanding of the subject is also not correct. One should understand the subject properly, then make a program and follow the same. Instead of that leaving the works unattempted is not good. At the same time starting half-heartedly and leaving the task in the middle is not a good trait. Sometimes we may have to spend a little more time on this subject to understand a particular topic. So we should understand is that give maximum possible energy for any problem and try to solve instead of leaving it.

It is a known fact that you can't walk unless you take a step ahead. Similarly, you won't be able to do something unless you make an attempt. If you decide that you won't be able to do something, you remain where you are because you are restricted by your own thoughts. I agree with the author that we won't be able to diagnose our shortcomings until and unless we make an effort. But at the same time, as rightly pointed out by Sankalan in his response above, we should not attempt to do something about which we have no idea at all. We should not restrict ourselves if we have a fair knowledge and idea about something just because we do not have an interest in it or because we are not motivated enough. Most of us are aware of our basic capabilities, but we need to put in efforts and start attempting if we need to polish those inborn talents and abilities. Start off and leave it if you feel that it is not your cup of tea but don't hesitate to make a beginning.
