Advani says he will not contest in 2019 elections

The very well known BJP senior leader L.K. Advani says he is not interested in contesting for the parliamentary elections that are going to be held this year. This was announced by the Party President Amit Shah. Today the BJP president met the seniormost member of the party and asked him to contest from Gandhinagar Constituency. But Advani replied in negative. Then the BJP president asked him to nominate either Advani's son or daughter from the same constituency. The ex-president of BJP told him that they also will not contest.

In the present Lok Sabha also he was not very active and hence his decision of not contesting is very correct and not encouraging his children is also to be appreciated.

I like to know the views of other members on this issue.

The request from the party and the denial from Advaniji suits both sided in the current situations and gives both sides an honourable stand.
It will be only good for the party to keep Advaniji in a high pedestal giving him the due honour he deserves. If the party and its current leaders think sincerely and creatively that can be properly accomplished by even creating a high pedestal, but politically neutral and inactive post with its decoration and benefits.

At the age of 92 years, one cannot be expected to stand in elections. That's a good decision he took. He might be tired now and should take rest. He has done lots of work in his tenure. He is one of the respected politicians like Atal Ji. He never was involved in any sort of scam.

As far as his children are concerned maybe they are not interested in politics and he knew it so denied the seat. That's really a wise decision and it shows his honesty.

I always wished if he could be made the president of India at any stage as that will be the tribute to this legendary politician.

Advani is now 90+. Even in 2014, he didn't want to contest. This time, it is a firm decision. His (lack of) performance in the current Lok Sabha reflects that this great statesman now needs some rest.

But even for this, the pathogenic haters are blaming Modi as if Modi is responsible for Advani's old age.

I appreciate the response of Mr Advani on this proposal and in fact by doing that he is earning more respect in the eyes of public.

He is putting before us an example of sacrifice and people should learn from him.

At some stage one has to detach from the materialistic world and he has done so now.

Mr Advani has expressed earlier also that he is not willing to contest the elections and this time it became clear after the announcement of the party president. There was speculation that very senior leaders are sidelined by the present generation of leaders and since Mr Advani is a veteran and one of the founding fathers of BJP, he knows the affairs inside the party much better than anybody else.

While age is a very important factor to carry out any developmental work, other factors are also taken into account in case of political matters. The party considers him as one of its 'Margdarshaks' (pioneers) and he has rightly decided to not contesting the elections after considering all the factors. Let him enjoy the retired life and he is always there to guide the party when required.

Mr Advani has taken a very right decision not to contest the coming election. This may be partly due to his advanced age followed by lack of stamina due to age related problem. He served the Party very sincerely and was attached to the party since the inception of Jansangha. He guided the party with a selfless devotion and was instrumental in scaling the the position of the Party to a high standard.
He is to be given due regard for his sincere involvement in strengthening the party and we all wish him a peaceful retired life and would certainly come with a constructive suggestion in the event of crisis.

Let BJP's senior leader Advani take rest and watch the ongoings in our country. No use of sitting in parliament as MP and be a silent observer. If required, let him sit at home and write books. Even if he plans to contest election to parliament, he cannot dream of becoming PM or Deputy PM.
There should be a retirement age for politicians. The maximum age limit for a politician to contest election should be 75. Thereafter, they should become an adviser and guide to their party.

The way the senior leaders like Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh and the likes have been treated by the present BJP leadership, it comes as no surprise that Shri Advani nor his family members are interested in contesting election this time. Just remember the way he was neglected by Mr Modi and the story would be clear. It is after all the Modi and Shah Pvt Ltd that is in power.

Only 10 years ago, the great liberals of India used to blame Advani-ji as the architect of destruction of so-called Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Now, to them, Advani-ji has become the apostle of virtues.

For the BJP leadership, Advani-ji is a very respected figure. But, he is 90+. So, this respected statesman has expressed his inability to contest in the Lok Sabha election. But, here also, liberals blame Modi-ji and Amit Shah. Example: "It is after all the Modi and Shah Pvt Ltd that is in power."

Come on, have a fight. Don't shoot and scoot.
