    Ganesh Chathurthi or Vinayaka Chavithi will be celebrated by Hindus on Bhadrapada Suddha Chatvithi. In many places in India, it will be celebrated as Ganapathi Navaratrulu that means nine nights. Ganesh is supposed to be the God who will see that you will not face any hurdles in the work you do. So it is a custom to worship Ganesha before worshipping any God and it is to ask him to see that the proposed worship will go without any problem. Ganesh Chathurthi is the first festival we will get after Ugadi. Many people worship Ganesh on that day without fail. They use fresh idol every year. After performing the pooja and once the Navaratri is completed the idol will be immersed in water.
    In all villages, towns and cities of AP and Telangana, this festival will be celebrated with a lot of devotion by all the Hindus. Annadanam will be there and their many good programmes in the nights and all people will gather near the idol in their street at the time of Pooja and take Prasad.

    Yes, it is one of the festivals being observed in our country in many states and many parts. The bringing of the Ganesha idol in the house then taking it for immersion both are the most important steps of this festival and in between the daily puja and aarti are enjoyed by all the people. This is an occasion to pray Lord Ganesha for well being and prosperity of the devotees. In our mythology Lord Ganesha is given a special position and in our puja celebrations we generally start any puja with first saluting the Lord Ganesha only. Our puja starts with 'Sri Ganeshaya namah'. That shows the importance of Lord Ganesha in our all religious rituals.

    In Maharashtra, we observe this festival with much fun and fare. In bigger societies people collectively place a big idol of Lord Ganesha and morning and evening both the times worship it and distribute prasadam to the participants. In addition to this we also keep an idol in our house also though everyone does not do it as common idol is already there. It is a great festival and we really enjoy this.

    In mumbai, this festival is celebrated with great pomp. Every one, irrespective of caste or religion help in the festival works. You will see Ganpati pandals in many societies, big pandals in one area and in many houses. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birth of Shri Ganesh, the god of god of wisdom, new beginning and obstacle remover. He is worshipped before starting new venture, house, etc. We have it in our history books that the festival of Ganesha Chaturthi was made popular by Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak to unite people. Now it is followed and celebrated with much devotion and enthusiasm.

    We use to hear the aarti from the pandals
    " Sukhkarta dukhharta varta vighnachi ||
    Nurvi purvi prem krupa jayachi ||
    Sarvangi sundar uti shendurachi ||
    Kanthi zalke mal mukta- phalachi || 1 ||
    dev jai dev jay mangal murti ||
    Darshanmatre mankamana purti ||
    Jay dev jai dev
    - which means " Oh Lord who provides happiness, takes away sorrow and removes all obstacles in our life, Who spreads love everywhere as his blessing, Who has lovely fragrance paste all over his body, Who has a necklace of pearls around his neck, hail the god, hail the auspicious idol, All our wishes are fulfilled just by just seeing you.

    The festival is normally of ?1 1/2, 3, 5, 7, 11 or 21 days. After these days , the idol is immersed in water such as lake, river or sea as per the availability. In Mumbai, Ganeshotsav also has installation Gauri idol and it's puja. The women conduct haldi kumkum and also fast that day. Both the idols are immersed together by saying " Ganpati bappa morya, Pudhchya varshi lavkar ya , means "Ganesha our father, come early next year".
