Calling for support in the articles section

    Friends,

This is a sincere appeal, requesting all of you to participate more wholeheartedly in our articles' contests. We have got so many skilled writers, evidence of which is to be seen in our forum. When you so enthusiastically participate in GDs, TOWs, creative writing contests and the like, why the damp response to article-based contests? Generally, also, whether or not there is an articles' contest, please do contribute to that section.

You've all been the backbone of our site, helping it to develop and grow and stand tall amidst stiff competition. The overall growth will be even more if you give the same support to articles which you give to sections like the forum and AE.

There is an ongoing contest on Aviation courses which is not at all a tough topic to write on and for which there is enough time. The admin. has even announced higher cash rewards than is usual. Please submit entries with enthusiasm.

Calling upon our alumni authors too for their support!

I prefer the double/triple CC pattern, for activities related to the article section, as compared to the ongoing article writing contest. In the double CC pattern, each entry gets the recognition it deserves and the assurance of earning double the points and CC. However, in a contest, sometimes, deserving entries are ignored, because of winners of previous contests not being considered for the top prize. Rarely, have I seen, the same members getting an award, for the same kind of contests, held consecutively.

I understand that it is done to encourage members, and this is not me making allegations and casting aspersions. Nonetheless, we cannot ignore the fact that it happens. It would be nice to revert to the double/triple cc pattern, where everyone stands to benefit.

It is essential to contribute everybody in the article section not only the competition section but in general. But, I am waiting for the approval of my 3-4 articles( not competition article).

I think it takes a lot of time and effort in writing articles that's why people shy away from writing them or participating in contests related to them. But rewards act as a motivation source so maybe members will contribute more to the article section this time than they did last time. I hope it happens and ISC continues to thrive.

    Juana,

I am surprised at the assumption that participants are not considered for the top prize for a contest because they are previous winners. This is illogical and is not a deciding factor for any contest.

As for the reward program you mentioned, this is not possible as of now. If members provide more support for the articles' section and thereby generate good revenue for the site, then, at some future point, the admin. may consider resuming the double or even triple reward program. Each time there is a dip in site revenue, the admin. has to keep in mind the allocation of cash prizes for such a contest. As I mentioned, for the ongoing one, higher cash awards than usual have been announced. Surely this is incentive enough for members to participate.

    Anamika Raj,

Hoping to see some entries from you in the ongoing contest.

It requires more time and we have to do a lot of homework for making an article. People may not be finding that much time and hence they may not be coming forward. When we are working on writing an article we should not get disturbed. These are all the factors for less participation in these competitions I feel. But there are people who contribute regularly to the article section and why they are also not coming forward for these contests.

I have been trying to find out some time to write a few articles on aviation.

I agree very few people participate in article contest this maybe because it takes lots of time to write on a specific topic.

    Vandana,

The assumption is based on observation. And I have been associated with ISC long enough to see a pattern of how things function. It is easy to predict who will win the member of the week or month or the wizards' award. Especially if there is a new member, on the site, or if a member returns after a long hiatus, and remains active for a short period.

Predictably, the award goes to them, no matter how active other members remain, in various sections, during that same period. There are times when the regular members' contributions surpass those of others, in quality and numbers, but they are summarily ignored. While these may not be announced contests, awards are initiated, and there are judges involved. My previous response was a conclusion based on how I have noticed things pan out, and of how awards were announced for article contests, held, in past years.

'I am surprised at the assumption that participants are not considered for the top prize for a contest because they are previous winners. This is illogical and is not a deciding factor for any contest.'

Not so long ago, an editor had voluntarily shared information that a member is considered for an award, in a particular category, only, once every six months. His response had shown that quality and quantity didn't count. And if a rule applies to one class of awards, what prevents it from being used in the others? I don't want to create a controversy; I pointed out what I noticed.

Anyway, my reasons for not participating are different. I am engaged with other assignments but will make time and submit a few more articles in the contest thread.

Though I wish to write in the article section and want to respond for article contest, somehow I am not comfortable in creating lengthy contents as sought there and thus shying away.

Writing an article for an award is a different thing and one can get motivated by it but in general article writing is an exertive activity and requires some concentration and focussing. The question of the quality of an article is also an important point and it has to pass the minimum stipulated by the ISC. Editors can not approve the article just like that and may ask revisions and editing. These are some of the basic reasons why many members (including me) are shying away from writing articles. Anyway we have to improve ourselves and try to submit good quality articles to help ISC to get more traffic and earn revenue. Please note that if ISC does not earn revenue from its different sections how it will be able to remunerate it's members.

Ms Juana is right. ISC awards new members to encourage them whether they deserve or don't deserve a prize. This is a tactic practised by ISC. A member spends quite a lot of time to write an article for the contest with a hope that it would fetch an award or some compensation for the efforts put in. A member not winning a prize must be awarded additional double or triple CC as an incentive for their participation. This would certainly improve the number of responses posted to an article writing contest.

Writing an article needs time, and for me, taking out a long span becomes difficult. Long back I planned to write a series of articles, but due to lack of time, I couldn't concentrate on it. I have written an article although kept it as a draft. So, writing articles for a contest requires time which is a tough call.

The next point is that the topics for the article contest do not interest me at all. They are monotonous, so I don't participate in it. The article topics on courses are not hard to write upon but mundane.

Most of the writers would prefer to have something interesting to write upon, so a high cash reward cannot always pull the creative writers.

Well, many would find it interesting, and they would contribute.

I am also a bit slow in churning out the articles just like many other members here but this thread and the following discussions are encouraging me to concentrate and write articles. Let me see if I can covert these words of motivation to that creative work.

I agree with what Juana suggested. ISC should come forward to award atleast double CC to attract support from members. ISC lacks in motivating members.

I will write more articles from now on. Do'nt fret anymore!!!
