Do you think that the improvement in teacher training process is must to improve education system

All know that there are many problems for our education system at present time as - lack of skill based education, lack of self dependence and many others. Then if we want to improve these demerits of our education system then I can say firmaly that we should have to improve our teacher training process. Because untrained or irregularly trained teachers cannot provide a better education. Our teacher training institutes are suffering from their worst condition( except some good teacher training institutes). There is big corruption on the name of teacher training because of donations. Teachers don't have proper teaching skills. They don't complete their internship. They don't have knowledge of psychological factors that effect teacher learning process.

The teacher's training programs are a must for the teachers to update their teaching skills to suit modern times. CBSE especially encouraging in conducting teachers' training programs in various aspects in their affiliated schools. Similarly, State Boards also providing teacher training programs in summer vacation to update their skills. Other than this, the governments are not focusing on the disciplinary aspects of students which play an important role in the learning process of the student. To promote discipline first in present-day students, what methods and ways to be followed by the governments have to scrutinize. Without bringing discipline in students how much brilliant the teachers maybe it is useless. Nowadays the governments, parents, and management of schools putting most blame on the teachers without considering the freedom given to the students which are costing discipline.

Today's students are tomorrow's citizens. The society will depend on the qualities of these citizens. So the way how we mentor the students will decide the future of the country. In that situation, teachers play an important role in building tomorrow's nation. for that, the teachers should be well equipped with the required stuff. For that, training for teachers is very important.

Unfortunately, these days the sanctity of the teaching profession is lost. That is also treated like any other profession. When a teacher looks at the student, they should get a feeling that they are like children. Similarly, when a student looks at the teacher he/she should get a respectful feeling. But that very element is lacking these days.

A multi-faceted training to the teacher is very much essential to see that the teacher' will have the required skills and knowledge so that we will have good citizens tomorrow in society.

In my view teacher training system contains these problems -
    1-lack of teacher trainers
    2-improper syllabus
    3-irregularity of student teachers
    4-lack of innovations in training
    5-corruption in internship

I think that teachers training is a crucial thing in our system and it has to be refined and upgraded time to time. A good training course for teachers will go a long way. If teachers are good then only we can hope for good to others.

A lot of changes have to be made to the educational curriculum. Teachers' training can only be changed after making such changes. We need to recognize the fact that Skill Development - Skill Based - self-dependence Curriculum is not yet fully integrated into our system. After that, changes in Teachers Training Curriculum will be made at the government level.

It is not entirely true that some training institutes give higher-level training even in the current situation. Some of us are supposed that such higher-level training will enhance the quality of education, it is also not correct.
I think that such additional training may be aimed at attracting more trainees and thereby maximizing returns. Whatever training is offered, they will get a job in the schools, only after obtained certification from the state education department. There will also be departmental level measures to improve the quality of teacher training.

For the first time, I hear that the subject that is not in the curriculum is being taught in training. So my view is that the level of education alone will not increase with the improvement of teacher training alone. But I think that unless they are provided the training properly, they will not be successful as a teacher. Providing a quarterly refresher course (at least one day) for teachers at work can be helpful in raising the level of education.

Good explanation by all the respected members.

After reading above responses may I say that there are different things which should be improved
    1-our curriculum
    2-Teacher training process

    1. In the favour of first point we can say that the form our curriculum should be base to our improved teacher training system .We must change the curriculum of teacher training also. But the subject like Psychology should be remained in curriculum in future also because according to Skinner -" Psychology is the base to prepare teachers . "

2.The process of teacher training should be improved also. Government should initiate some compulsory camps or programmes yearly in Summer vacations to train teachers and know about their teaching skills

I think there is nothing lacking in teacher training course. Already a good course curriculum is there. But the problem lies with in the mind set of students who used to join that teacher training courses like Dl.Ed., B.Ed. etc. Most of them are not serious and join these courses just to get a job. Sometimes, they don't get regular. Psychology and other subjects as mentioned above are already there.

Another problem is that these courses are running as a business now. So college authority do think only about money and sometimes they appoint less qualified faculty. Which in turn also affect teacher training quality.

Further, government has taken good initiative by conducting CTET and STET exams. You can understand that if any candidate is qualifying these exams, he or she is having good basic knowledge required for teaching.

But refresher course is required to refreshen the knowledge of teacher. it should be conducted annually.

Let me start the reply with a quote, "A teacher plants the seeds of knowledge, sprinkles them with love and patiently nurtures their growth to produce tomorrow's dream" and as mentioned by a member(#686163) today's students are tomorrow's citizens, a teacher helps to build a better citizen and so its strength.

It is true that improvement in the teacher training process is a must to improve the education system but this is just one part of education. We need to change the full system in order to impart better education to children or students. We all know that many of the topics taught are not used by many or some are good in one subject and hate other subjects and visa-Versa. We need to make a platform in order to make students learn without pressure or stress. The children should learn from their own will which will help them remember and use it when required.

Teachers' training will help to get quality teachers but we need to have a better syllabus, practical class for better understanding of concepts, creative way of learning, incorporate education about the relationship, sex, environment, unity, history, etc. The education department should be handled by learned person, be it minister, counselor, board, etc so as to prepare a better and updated syllabus and methods. Education is the foundation of any nation and it needs to be strong, it can be implemented only by better and dedicated staff and members.

I feel that Dr. Deepali has a point, that there are teacher training courses in place which may not be as bad as we think. Perhaps what is required is not merely a refresher course for teachers to be updated on teaching skills, but also the teacher training courses need to be updated from time to time to be in sync with current day requirements. It should not merely be based on a fixed curriculum and syllabus but should allow for flexibility. Let's take the example of many of today's children who are hooked on to gadgets and who do not have the ability to be able to hold their interest to read even one chapter of a book recommended by the teacher as weekend reading, leave aside the entire book. How does the teacher get them interested in this task and to make them enjoy it as well? How do you get children to work on a project by getting their interest in seeking information through books in the school library or a public library rather than simply looking up Google? So there should be some aspects of a teacher's training program wherein such issues can be allowed to be brought up and solutions discussed.

School is the second home to children. School is an educational institution. It turns out to be a home because of the presence of teacher.

Recently I heard in news, the Bombay municipal corporation had made a new implementation. The teachers will be rewarded as well as punished on the basis of the performance of the students. Many agreed and many disagreed based on their perspective respectively.

Corruption is everywhere. Education has become a business. This is not prevalent everywhere but this scenario is present in most places and we can't deny.
Taking bribes before admission. High charges of private institutions. Private tutions fluctuating charges.

Nowadays better education is received in the company of good books and experienced people.
    For instance,
The aspirants who join private educational institutions for entrance exams preparation, not everyone comes out with flying colors even after paying extra money. Money has nothing to do with education. Yes, affording anything is not free of cost but real education is when we make ourselves vulnerable and study hard. Hardwork beats talent.

Teachers are the best guide. They can guide students but they can't force you to do it. Even if they do pressurize or scold you, it might benefit only if you develop interest.

Teachers are bound to have updated knowledge of what is happening around and the education department must arrange periodical tests and training for them so that new knowledge if any can be imparted. Apart from that, they should have field visits to various projects so that they can tell the students very well. For example, if the lesson on how to extract edible oil from rice bran, the teacher should have visited the oil factory and that would make her to know by seeing the working process and she can even draw the same on the blackboard as to how she saw and to the understanding level of the students.

I think government should officially test the teaching skills of teacher also because in current process we test only knowledge than what about affective and psychomotor domain of Bloom's taxonomy?

Being a teacher of tomorrow I am happy that I am discussing about teacher training while I am also doing this .

  • #686365
@Rajendra Mina, it is good to know that you are going to become a teacher. I am trying to explain you the bloom taxonomy. Benjamin Bloom had given a classification of learning outcomes and objectives in 1956 which is popularly known as Bloom's taxonomy. Revised bloom affective taxonomy was given in 1990. Actually it is a powerful teaching and learning tool. It includes six levels like Remembering, Comprehension, Applying, Analysing, Synthesis and Evaluation.

    1. Remebering: According to first level, teacher ask question to students and then come to the topic ( remembering the previous learned information).
    2. Comprehension: in this level teaching explain, translate, summarize the things to students and it includes the ability to grasp the information. It is one level higher to remembering.
    3. Appplying: in this level, teacher repeats the experiments or task in front of students e.g. in science subjects application / demonstration of rules, principles, concepts etc.
    4. Analysing: in this level teacher breakdown the material of information into parts and analyse or identify its components. This level requires understanding of both content and structure of material.
    5. Synthesis: in this level all parts are put together to form a new whole like a scheme, a research proposal etc.
    6. Evaluation: it is the highest and final level. In this level students makes evaluation what they have learned and conclude.

In classroom teaching a teacher usually use all these levels either intentionally or unintentionally. As you are under teacher training you can observe and understand this concept in detail.

@Respected Deepali Gangwar Mam,your explanation is good till a level, but I want to add some thing more

The Bloom taxonomy contains three parts or domains
    1. Cognitive domain
    2.Affective domain
    3 Psychomotor domain

All the six parts which you described are subdivisions of first one(cognitive domain).

The affective domain also contains six parts-
    Receiving
    Response
    Valuing
    Holding
    Characterization

And there are 6 parts of psychomotor domain also.

I will give a detailed discussion about this in any other post.
