Supreme Court directed political parties to upload details of candidates with criminal record

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Rohinton F Nariman directed the national and state political parties to upload the details of candidates of their party with criminal records on their websites, newspapers, and social media. Candidates with such records in Parliament and Assembly must be uploaded within 48 hours along with mentioning the reason why they gave tickets to candidates with such records. SC observed that from the last four General elections, there is an alarming increase in the number of such candidates in political parties. SC opined the selection of candidates must be on merit but not on winnability. Do you think it is the first step suggested by SC to clean political and democratic systems in India?

The record of AP politics shows the ruling YSRCP has 81 cases against them, 15 cases against opposition TDP. The present CM of AP Mr.Jagan is having 38 cases against him and opposition Chandrababu Naidu is one case against him.

This is a good decision taken by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has ruled that parties with criminal backgrounds in parliament and assembly elections should advertise on the website, newspapers and social media.
The party's website should include information about the nature of the offense, whether charged and in what court, case number.
It should also be said why those who were not in the case were not treated.

This is very funny. When the candidates apply for the EC nomination for elections all details in affidavit is sought. That means each candidate has to solemnly declare their assets and also the previous records of crime and criminal cases. Moreover the police would have all the records of each criminal entering the politics, So instead of asking the parties to provide the details of criminal activities by those leaders who won the elections, the SC can order the EC to submit all the details of forums being submitted by each candidate and that would be easier to identify who is criminal and who was right.

No one is above Supreme Court and if court has given a notice like that it is a welcome measure. This will also bring the people having criminal records in the knowledge of public and their reputation will also be adjudged accordingly. Let us see the response of the parties on this direction and how it is going to change the public perception about these apparently god looking leaders in the legislature. I welcome the move by Supreme Court and it will definitely expose some of the goonda elements who have reached echelons of power just by sheer public voting.

It is a positive step towards clean administration I feel. To join a government job the candidate should not have any cases against him. But an MP or MLA can have any number of cases against him. What is the logic in this. This point should be thought by Supreme Court and try to bring in changes in the system and see that people who are clean should only contest in the elections. Once such system comes in there will be a good development in the administration and governance. Public money will be utilised properly for the benefit of the Nation and not for self development.

This is a good step taken by the highest court in the country to expose the criminal record bearers to the public. Let all the members irrespective of which party they belong should be exposed by this directive.

It's a welcome verdict of the Hon'ble Supreme Court.

It's said that politics is dirty and creates dirty paradigm. Is this why noble people stay away from politics.? Especially, in the present day politics wherein hardly a few can be categorized as noble as Late PM Lal Bahadur Shastri. Infact, - murderers, rapists, embezzlers, rascals, hate-mongers and different type of criminals are found in large number in political parties. Why do political parties select these anti social elements for contesting the elections as their representatives in parliament and assemblies? Why do people vote for them despite knowing their criminal record and ill activities just for the sake of liking any particular party?
Why do we wait for such verdict from the court.? Why do we not take initiative in right direction.

    These are some serious questions.
