It is high time to revisit all the learning from our grandmother's and granfatgers

The best of immunity that has apparently saved so many thousands of people in many parts of the country comes from ancient wisdom. For example, the practice of mixing turmeric with lukewarm milk and consuming a glass of it is now recommended by many Ayurveda and Siddha doctors.

This is one of the suggested remedies to boost immunity in these Covid times. Nothing is more refreshing than a juice made out of pepper, lemon, thulasi and betel leaves and a few other herbs. This is the perfect answer to keep our throats clear of any infection. It is also commonly observed that Siddha and Ayurveda treatment is found so effective at all times and the same has been successful at New Delhi where so many patients were given these medicines.

Let the Government now encourage more advanced research in Ayurveda and Siddha. We can perhaps have so many new medicines for different ailments and even if part of the knowledge that our grandmother's had advocated, so be it. The time to act is now.

When 8000 patients have been treated free of cost with Siddha medicines and not a single death has been reported, we need to probe deeper into what these herbal remedies can actually do to both patients and for perfectly normal people in terms of preventive care.

There many home remedies for many problems. If we use these remedies we will have better health. In our house, we use many health remedies. My granddaughter goes to the Tulasi plant and get two leaves and eats, She says that she is having some throat problem so she is eating that. To that level, the home remedies are spread in our house. We never eat food without Rasam which is liquid having pepper, tamarind, salt, jaggery and turmeric. They add all these ingredients to water and boil it on a stove. Once it boils they reduce the flame and allow it to boil for some more time. All of us will drink this during our lunch. Similarly, my father will tell different home remedies for many problems and they found to be very useful for our health.
We use ayurvedic medicines only for normal health problems and we are all maintaining good health. So, I agree with the author that the home remedies that are advocated by our grandparents will come in handy for many common ailments. Only this is that we have to have the patience and belief in that process. We should have confidence that the medicine will be useful to us. Then the ayurvedic will give very good result.

When the elders are present with us, they are the hindrance to the family and this kind of thought process do exist with new couples who are recently married but does not want to look after the elders at the home. This very thought would make them alone and when the children are born and nurturing challenge comes. then the requirement of the elders required. But, the fact is that elders bring cheers and charm to the home as they would not only keeps the things in order and they would look after the children nicely without any complaints. And in this process their nurturing is done through desi medicines available in the kitchen and thus the children are exposed to Ayur type of infusing any kind of medicines which has no side affects. Children love to eat the home made medicines and thus keep away from the disease.

Our grand fathers and grandmothers are our great guides in tackling numerous issues and their solutions fit to our problems. The only thing is to listen to them patiently and take advantages of their experiences. Similarly, the grandmothers can help you with many herbs providing you instant relief. That is true and our elders have always been saying that home remedies and Ayurveda are the best solution, This method does not confine itself to the treatment of the human body only, but the body also keeps an eye on the mind, soul and human surroundings. In Ayurveda, attention is given to the category of personality of humans before diagnosis and treatment. Most of the human beings have one main defect and other minor defects. From these different types of mixed personality are formed. Ayurveda and domestic remedies such as basil water, ginger, giloy, etc. are being considered by the whole world to increase immunity power, today the battle of corona is being won through these home remedies by common people.

There is a saying in Kannada stating that "the plant grown in the backyard is not the medicine". We have learnt to take tablets and syrup for all minor health issues when our elders have hardly seen doctors in their young and middle ages. Even now, only under the pressure from young children that they move to hospitals.
Most of the above stated medicinal plants like turmeric, ginger, mint, tulasi, aloe vera, lemon, betle leaves were grown by our elders in the back yard or in tiny pots as a hobby to support them at times of ill health. Now we have lost touch in gardening and growing such herbs too.
