This is the day of competition in any field. So there need filters for elimination and to select the best. Tests, interview group discussion etc., are the most common methods and procedures followed by recruiters apart from academic and extra curricular excellence.
Apart from communicative skills and academic skills, work skills the selected area. Mathematical ability with emphasis to mathematical reasoning and problem solving ability are also tested and judged i many such tests and exams.

However, the latter two(mathematical reasoning and problem solving) being not usual curriculum subjects, the candidates may not have properly trained in them. However now a days there are many supportive books available for the candidates to train themselves by following such books.( In our student days there were no such books or if any, not available at our places.)
I quote names of some such books available now :
    1. The Art and Craft of Problem Solving
    2. Solving Mathematical Problems
3.MATHEMATICS PROBLEM SOLVING- Alexandr Soifer (pdf)
The above are random example sourced from internet and not given n any order of priority.

There are many You Tube video on the subject. Student can also visit coaching sites and get more on this regard on coaching and martials. One example of such sites is testbook.com. Members who have use such books may give their latest info on the matter.
