There is no point in doing a diploma after B.Tech. Instead of that, they can do some specialised certificate course like CAD and other related computer-related certificate courses they may get good jobs and their chances will also increase a lot. These days even B. Tech students are being allowed to do B.Ed and try for teaching jobs in schools. It is better to think of some of these options. MBA is also a good bet for engineers. GATE exam can be attempted. M.Tech is also an option. Even with B.Tech in Civil one can try in the construction field and there are many companies and builders recruiting Civil Engineers.

You have asked an interesting query. Actually career making is a very difficult thing in today's perspective when jobs are shrinking day by day and the students who thought that an engineering degree would get them a good job are highly disappointed. So there is one thing that emerges from this that having a mediocre score in engineering is of no avail while having a diploma or trade certificate can easily fetch a lower level job. This fact is to be understood in the beginning itself and only the students who have high scores should go for higher education. Unfortunately there is no guidance in this regard and students are suffering. In this particular case going for diploma will again require 2-3 years which is a long time and better to go for some course which can fetch some job in the industry. I would recommend to do a course in digital marketing or automation or data science. One can also try to learn some basic computer techniques and tools which can be used in practical way while pursuing a job.
    Knowledge is power.
