India Cricket Tour of Australia 2020-21 - discuss the teams

After a lot of uncertainty about whether or not the series would go ahead in the midst of the pandemic, the Men in Blue are heading Down Under on a long, really long, tour once the IPL wraps up. The series has been referred to as an 'epic tour' what with so many matches and two strong opponents facing off after a long time!

The national cricket team will be donning whites for Test matches for the first test from 17th to 21st December (day and night match), for the second test from 28th to 30th December, for the third test from 7th to 11th January 2021 and the final test from 15th to 19th January 2021.

There are also a series of ODIs and T20s against the Baggy Greens, with the schedule as follows-
First ODI on 27th November, the second on 29th November, and the third on 2nd December.
First T20 on 4th December, the second on 5th December and the third on 8th December.

We'll have a separate thread for each of the series to discuss the matches individually. For now, let's talk about the players that have been selected for the three squads. The squads are-
The Test squad is: Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, K.L. Rahul, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, and Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper).

The One-Day squad is: Virat Kohli (Captain), K.L. Rahul (vice-captain and also the wicket-keeper), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, and Shardul Thakur.

The Twenty-20 squad is: Virat Kohli (Captain), K.L. Rahul (vice-captain and also the wicket-keeper), Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami , Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper).

BCCI has also selected four youngsters as extras, namely, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel and T. Natarajan who will step in if required. The idea behind having a jumbo squad going together would be so as to have everyone together in the Bio-Bubble, with the quarantine period and other protocols in place at one time and not have to send out any replacements in case key players are injured.

What are your views on the selections? Do you think some deserving player was dropped? What are our team's chances of making a clean sweep, winning the series of tests, ODIs and T20s as well?

I am quite happy with the squad and the selection of the player for each set of games like Test, ODI and T20. When we look at the batting side, we look strong but when we look at the other end of bowling, it looks week as we don't have a strong line-up except for spinners. It is time we look for some good fast bowlers along with medium pacers who can bowl in any pitch and have a good line and length and know each batsmen weak point. I hope that the squad selected turns out to be a tough competitor for the Aussies. It is very good to play with one of the tough and best teams in the world to find our strength and weakness that can help us make the necessary changes in the teams or squads. All the best "Team India."

The teams appear to be good and the best players are there in the list. It is good to send more players so that there will not be any problem due to injuries or some other problems during the season. BCCI appears to be correct in this aspect.
The main problem in the team appears to be not having a good wicket-keeper in all the three squads. Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant appear to be promising but in their earlier matches, they have not proved their skill. Rahul will be burdened with wicket keeping also and hence his batting may suffer some times. I am recollecting Rahul Dravid who managed both the departments sometime back.
Rohit Sarma is missing may be due to some health reasons and definitely a big loss to the team. A good series is ahead. Let us see how Kohli is able to impress the country with his captaincy skills in the absence of Dhoni in his team.

The newly selected team is good. The selected players have given their performances well in many past matches. It is a sad thing that due to hamstring injury in IPL, Rohit Sharma has been kept out of all three formats of cricket, whether he will travel with the team or not, it will be decided later. It seems good as a wicketkeeper, KL Rahul got a chance, who will be the vice-captain of the team. We hope and expect good performance from the Indian team that our expectations will be fulfilled.

Discussions by ex-cricketers have centred on the omission of Suryakumar Yadav. Having done really well in various editions of the IPL, not to mention in domestic cricket, everyone wondered why he was not included in the T20 team. I think K.L. Rahul was an automatic inclusion due to his role as a wicketkeeper, and though he has not played well in the previous series in Australia, on home ground here he did show his batting talent against them. It is good to see dependable veteran Cheteshwar Pujara in the Test squad.

With Rohit Sharma unlikely to head out due to his hamstring injury, the small possibility of having a different captain for the ODI and T20 squads has got buried.

Yes , this is going to be an exciting series after long time. With the first day and night test match for India, and with the ODI's and T20's it is definitely going to be an interesting one. Unlike the other tours, there are lot of youngsters in this series which is going to give them a great experience in foreign conditions. No doubt, this series is going to show the best talents among the first time international players. It is also a good chance for Pant and Saha to set a position in the wicket keeper place.

What would be the time of telecast for Indian viewers and will the series be streamed online on Hotstar? Can anyone let me know? I am especially interested in watching how the day-night Test match is played with the pink cherry instead of the usual red one.
