What a girl/woman should do when stalked.

Stalking is a form of mental assault, in which the perpetrator repeatedly, unwantedly, and disruptively breaks into the life-world of the victim, with whom he has no relationship (or no longer has), with motives that are directly or indirectly traceable to the affective sphere. Moreover, the separated acts that make up the intrusion cannot by themselves cause the mental abuse, but do take together (cumulative effect).

Have you undergone the awful experience of being stalked? It doesn't matter if you're a college student, a working professional, or a housewife — many women in India get chased regularly. Most of the time, the perpetrators hang around in the neighbourhood, outside offices and schools, etc.

Why is it that some women chose to ignore their stalkers instead of approaching the police? It is usually because they are intimidated by the thought of approaching the police or feel that the police will not help.

Girls/Women who are being stalked can complain to the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Commission will take the matter up with the police. Any woman, in any part of India, can file this complaint to 0111-23219750. The Commission asks the police to then expedite the investigation. In serious cases, the commission forms an inquiry committee, which makes a spot inquiry, examines witnesses, collects evidence, etc. The Commission also has powers to summon the accused, the witnesses and police records, to facilitate the inquiry.

Stalking is the serious issue through which the ladies and women experience the great ordeal of challenge as the stalkers are new and not known before nor could trace their address and yet keep on bothering them giving lots of mental disturbance and unwanted worries. Immediately such incidents should be reported to the women police station or the PS nearby so that the police can trace out the stalker and punish them. Now a days modern gadgets are available with the police to nab the culprits and the women need not worry about it. They should complain to the police and keep engaged with talking with the stalker and suddenly the police would pounce on him to trace and arrest. But such things could happen if the lady or the woman has the guts to approach the law enforcing agencies and that is were the guts are lacking.

Author has provided a valuable information regarding approaching the National Commission for Women (NCW) by the harassed women. The problem of stalking is an age old problem which in higher society is known as wooing also. Though wooing is a sophisticated way of doing stalking only. The main problem in our system is that our governance is very poor and most of the women are reluctant to go to police as they are not sure whether police would take it seriously or not. The stalker might be from an influential family and police will think twice before summoning him. There is too much political interference in the working of police and they see who is the accused before taking up any concrete action. There are even cases where police has nexus with the offender and they will discourage the victim for lodging the complaint or even threaten the family. So the situation is very pathetic and we do not know where to go for justice. The problem of stalking is present in many countries but in some of them it is taken up by the police and local administration very seriously and the number of incidents are drastically reduced. In our country also some places police is vigilant and governance is good so cases are less.

I would like to appreciate the author that he took the initiative to start a discussion on this important subject. Stalking any woman is not just an issue but it is a serious problem that every woman in the world has to face. Stalking is accompanied by an attempt to speak dirty or lewd words, forcefully negotiate, touch them, or block their passage. Stalking should not be ignored, nor should it be seen as a minor problem. Because ignoring small things here, later becomes big problems. There is a steady increase in cases of stalking which is a concern. After seeing the violent incidents after the stalking, it becomes necessary to talk openly about these subjects, as they are constantly seeing an increase in them. Women should immediately file a complaint against them and the concerned organizations should take action as soon as possible.

Many ladies don't know about this National Commission for Women (NCW). We should appreciate the author for bringing out a good thread in which he has given the information including the phone numbers of NCW. Many girls. women are facing problems with these stalkers. They fear so much that they even don't tell about these people even in the house also. I know a girl who committed suicide because of the problems she is facing these stalkers.
The first point is that all girls should be brave and learn some self-defence technics like Karate etc. They should teach a lesson to such people so that nobody else will come near them.
Another thing the ladies should do is to give a complaint to the police station. It is a must. But many ladies ignore these issues and suffer a lot. There are some lady police stations. They will receive the complaints and take necessary actions immediately. In Hyderabad, there are she teams and they deal these cases very strongly. Many women and girls are using the service of these teams.

It is the fear about their future that the women/girls don't take up the case to police or commission or court. If the stalker is a politically influenced guy, or has money and muscle power, things would go wrong.

Whatever people may say, girls and ladies are vulnerable in our society. They are not protected. The administrative machinery lacks governance and many women are afraid to walk through the isolated patches. If we are serious to check stalking then it requires a change in perception of the society in a greater way and then only people will learn good behaviour towards females.
    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

I appreciate the author for providing us the valuable information. Stalking is the serious issue and most of the girls or women usually ignore stalkers which is the reason why they get courage to stalk them. I would say why should a girl be stalked . They should complain to the police so that stalkers be punished otherwise same will be continued .
