Despite the pressure tactics, PAGD registered a thumping win in DDC election in JK

Post abrogation of article 370 and 35A, this was the first election in jk which was concluded a few days back and results were declared yesterday. Despite pressure tactics, stopping leaders from campaigning, detentions and imposing the restriction on candidates, PAGD emerged as the biggest winner with 110 seats in theses DDC elections in JK. Even some leaders who were declared winners are still in custody.

Other than BJP, candidates were not even provided security and we're prevented from the campaigning for these elections. Still, PAGD got the majority seats in JK without any campaign. However, the BJP campaigned throughout JK with 8 union ministers, visited everywhere, enjoyed shikara ride while they campaigned but could win only 3 blocks in Kashmir.

Democracy is not only about fighting elections, it is also giving equal rights to every citizen in every aspect. Repressive tactics and raids just to silence the dissent is the murder of democracy even if the elections are held without providing equal space to everyone. Despite a shrinking space PAGD registered a thumping win with 110 seats in JK.

The recently elections to Kashmir Development councils has proved one thing that the youth are back to the democratic process and no matter who ever wins which ever party emerge as the great winner., the results has proven Pakistan and others who want to create panic and fear among the public, but the voters has chosen their choice of people as leaders to give the development a big yes. Now India is upbeat and have the sigh of relief, that Kashmir has slowly accepted the process of inclusive democracy and that is good for the country and New Delhi is feeling happy over it.

PAGD is the alliance of the local parties, so their victory is not surprising at all. What BJP has gained in J&K, especially, in Valley should be morale-boosting situation.

I expect to see that peace is maintained in the entire valley. It should be understood that the restoration of article 370 should not be so much important for Kashmiris as the development of the region is. If young people have jobs and the prosperity returns to Kashmir, I hope that external sleeper-cells will not be able to mislead the young blood.

In fact what the BJP wanted is to give the youth more power to rule and develop and keep the divisive forces at bay in the valley and that was totally supported and regarded.

Any party which has a nationalistic agenda along with agenda for progress of the state will do good for the people of the state. It does not matter what is its name it could be PAGD or BJP or Congress. On the other hand if a party has individualistic agenda based on some anti national and terrorist activities then it may win by threatening the people and rule happily but would never help in the progress of the state and its people. The states where people understand this basic fact and comply with it will definitely rise and progress in every sphere whether it is education or career of youths or employment. Kashmir has its own potential to generate enormous employment potential but it always suffered due to terrorist activities and selfish interests of some leaders. I hope with the present change in the Kashmir we will be heading for a prosperous state. Kashmir is the crown of India and if the people of state want it can become the most flourishing state of our country. If there is a will there is a way. But this way is only possible through a nationalistic approach and not through a separatist approach. This has to be understood very very clearly by the voters if prosperity is really required.

It is good that in spite of unrest in the area people came out and voted. That is a good sign. The important issue of how the elections are conducted and how people participated in the voting. These two purposes are served. If the elected PGAD works sincerely for the development of the State, there will be a good change in the mindset of the people there and the people living there will also have a peaceful life. BJP might not have won the majority but it made its presence felt in many areas of the state. That way BJP also made some gains, I think.

The present Govt is doing its best to change the situation in Kashmir from a terrorist state to a flourishing state where people will be living in happiness and prosperity. The local people have now a great responsibility of selecting good people to rule the state Govt whenever it gets elected there in due course of time. They should not vote for the terrorist funded or separatist parties as that would again take the state back to turmoil. It is not a question of BJP or Congress or any coalition, it is a question of selecting good leaders who have a nationalistic flavour and will try their best to develop the state and not fulfil their selfish motives only. Enough harm has already been done in the state in past and now people should awaken to the realities of modern lives and living in a cosmopolitan world rather than a world ruled by some monarchs who are cheating the people and making them simply fool.
