Who will first see the rising sun?

We are close to end of 2020. When the sun sets on the evening of December 31, and the world awaits the arrival of 2021, a tiny island country on the extreme east will already have begun celebrations. Located just to the west of the International Date Line, the Republic of Kiribati is one of the first places on earth to experience the first rays of the rising sun of the new year. Their time zone is 14 hours ahead of UTC—the farthest forward time zone in the world. The Republic of Kiribati consists of 33 atolls and low coral islands in the central Pacific Ocean dispersed over 3.5 million sq km of water. The nation comprises of three island groups—Gilbert Islands, Phoenix Islands, and Line Islands, the last of which are located as far as 30° east of the 180° longitude line.

It is not a special or peculiar event to those countrymen to see the sunrise on 01 Jan 2021. It happens every new year. We know that Japan is the country of 'Rising Sun'. You have shared more detailed information about the tiny island country. Good.

Very good information about the Republic of Kiribati and we never know about these islands. 2020 is going to end in a few days and a new year2021 is on cards. All are waiting for the problems of COVID19 to vanish and normalcy to come. The people of this island are lucky to have the new year a little before than all others.

According to my practical experience, it is very difficult to see the sun rise as well the dawn in the early morning though we sit in the open place even by 4.00 am. Somehow or other the direction of ours will get diverted without watching the dawn light. Sun rise and sun Set we can see in the shore of Kanniyakumari, Tamilnadu. Many visitors used to assemble before the sea to watch the sun rise and sun set daily.
