In AP playing cards and cock fights becomes legal during Sankranthi

Most of the AP districts welcome the new harvest festival Sankranthi with a whole lot of activities and that includes heavily bet playing cards and cock fights. Such is the fierce competition from the rival teams that the bet from the onlookers goes into lakhs and all these illegal activities for three days has been downplayed the police would not book the case. It is the fact that people visit their home town for sure to participate in three-day festivities namely Bhogi, Sankranthi and Kanumu and heavy money changes during the betting.

True. Some crores of rupees will get circulated. Even big political leaders will take part in these activities. Rich people will participate with very high bets of money. Cockfights will continue day and night for the three days and many people lose money in these bets.
Coastal Andhra is very rich and many people are rich and each family will have at least one person aboard. Lands are very fertile and some community people are having very big industries in the neighbouring states of Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Telangana. Police can also be the spectators in these activities for these three days.
Playing cards are always there. Not just for these three days. Even a small village will also have a club where people play cards every day. Some people will lend money on a heavy rate of interest on the spot for the players by keeping their gold items with the loan giving person.

    K Mohan,

I am reiterating here what I mentioned recently in another thread- kindly use the 'India' category, select the State when posting such threads and select Politics or Elections if the thread is related to those aspects.

During the festival times it is difficult to stop people for doing the traditional things as that is linked to their sentiments. So, it has to be treated in a cordial way. It is also true that some people misuse such times and do illegal activities under that shelter.
    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
