Hundred years to our National flag- remembering Pingali Venkayya
Our tricolour National flag after its recognition in 1921 as a national flag by Indian National Congress Committee at the Bezawada meeting has crossed 100 years of its existence. The creator of this flag is Pingali Venkayya, a great freedom fighter and a great follower of Mahatma Gandhiji. He designed 30 models of flags and out of which Gandhiji was attracted to the present model of the National flag. Pingali Venkayya used Green and Orange colours in his model of the flag. But Gandhiji made little modifications to this model by adding white colour in between the other two colours.Pingali Venkayya was born in Machilipatnam of AP and by profession, he was a Lecturer in the National College of Machilipatnam. On surpassing 100 years of its existence, AP CM today visited the residence of family members of Pingali Venkayya in Macherla of AP and honoured the daughter of Pingali Venkayya. The Central government might also have done something special on this occasion.
