This time Corona Virus is behaving differently. One of my distant relatives was sick and she was in the hospital. Doctors can bring the oxygen levels to a normal position by injecting plasma. Almost she was coming to normal. Her ling infection has vanished. But she has become unconscious for the last two days. Doctors are not able to understand the reason for that. All organs are functioning well. She is on a ventilator. So taking her to get an MRI scan is also not possible. Doctors are trying their best. They are suspecting a brain stroke. They say we have to wait and watch.
Why I mentioned this here is to say that prevention is better than cure. So let us all take the maximum possible Iprecautions and follow all protocols so that the chances of being safe are high. I even talked to a doctor and he says in Telanagana from the last 10 days the variant is behaving peculiarly and they are also not able to understand things fully.

This second phase has taught us a big lesson that we should not take things lightly. I remember after the containment of the first phase we were still seeing some of the cases happening in some places but were having a very casual approach towards them. We thought that slowly this virus would die away and things would be back to normal. Most of the people started socialising and were taking the street food in comma places and eateries. Then there were many other social, political, and religious congregations which added fuel to the fire. Finally the situation went out of the control and even today after a lockdown of quite many days the daily cases in India are hovering around 350000 which is a very big number and once the lockdown is removed whether we will be able to control the consequences or not is the main worry at this juncture. It is imperative that all of us have to be very alert and cautious and take all precautions possible at this difficult time.

The second wave of covid terrifying people and became a real threat for the life of people. Old people are very much affected in the second wave. Two of my far off relatives died in Guntur government hospital both husband and wife one after another. They are actually are residents of Vijayawad and due to lack of beds were sent to our city. Wife died in the ambulance itself before taken to the hospital rooms. Both were above 75 years. Lack of beds, oxygen and medicines is the major problem in all hospitals. Vaccines are not available. It is very important to take vaccine two doses otherwise it will be great threat for everyone. Prevention is better than cure is the only option at present and so we must always follow the basic rules of covid.

The second dose or the booster dose to which the patients are waiting are now being sent back for no stock of vaccines. Though the registrations are over and slots allotted the government area hospitals are sending away the patients saying shortage of vaccines. In this back drop even the teens are making rounds the hospitals and asking for the fist dose of vaccines. I think as long as the vaccines were in government custody the program was going smooth, as soon as the vaccines started moving to the hands of private hospitals the stock at the government hospitals started vanishing. I understand that the vacciens are accunted for from the movement at every step and how come they be misused by vested interest. India need to strengthen the vaccine program and District collectors need to be involved for professional way of distribution.

Here In Kerala, the Pulse oximeter, which can easily detect the oxygen level of Covid patients has a hefty price and not available anywhere. Pulse oximeters, who had just Rs.500/- are now being sold by medical shops for Rs 2,600/-. I don't know what price is charged in other States.

The routine was to have Pulse oximeters delivered by local authorities to Covid patients who needed more care and could be treated at home. Due to the high price and scarcity of pulse oximeters local authorities too, are in crisis.

At this pandemic season, when people are struggling to make ends meet, it is not right for companies to bother people by raising the price of medical equipment.

Some hoarders are creating shortage in the market and then minting money out of these practices. India is not haven shortage of anything. We are a very resourceful country but our infrastructure is of not that standard which is required to face up the present pandemic challenge. Actually the present threat is so big and grave that special arrangements are required to combat them on war footing. The second wave is still not flattened out and seems to be contained but that is primarily due to the recent lockdowns and restriction on the people's movement. The real trend will only be known when there is no lockdown and restrictions.

The current wave of covid has exposed the Indian health care system and people have immensely suffered due to this deadly virus. A large number of people are getting affected and still gasping for breath, though oxygen supplies have been procured from foreign countries, it seems not enough to deal with the current crisis!

People of the country have suffered enough and this must be a wake-up call for the authorities to set up the health care system in order and provide all medical facilities to the patients in the country. Govt must bear in mind that being complacent means total collapse and the death knell of the entire health care system. It is not time to set back and relax, rather credible steps must be taken to set in order our health care system in the country so people don't suffer anymore.

At the same time, we should encourage all organisations that are on the ground to help people and provide medical facilities. When authorities have failed some NGOs are tirelessly working to provide some relief to the people suffering from covid-19. They deserve applauds and appreciation for their amazing work on the ground.

Today in our native place I got my parents and aunt vaccinated with the first dose. Vaccine campaign they arranged in a school. The school is very spacious and an open place is also there. So the Asha workers organised the entire programme very well. They planned in a way that there will be no necessity for the people to form a crowd. Everywhere the social distance Is maintained and people are not allowed without a mask. They managed total work in such a way that no person need stay there more than 45 minutes. My appreciation to the organisers.
I think government staff are also working very efficiently.

US has sent huge quantity of covishield raw materials and that would enable to produced crores of vials shortly. And those who are pending to be injected with the second dose over due, they are eagerly waiting for the replinishing the stocks in government hospitals. What I am trying say that the govt should not have allowed vaccines for 45 and above urgently and that messed up. Why because there was heavy rush for registration for the senior citizens and their second dose over due. Now imagine what would be the fate of 18 plus whose regisration were temporarily stopped for no stock of vaccines.

Celebrations are in full swing in China, where the corona virus was first discovered as the world faces the second outbreak of Covid. The festival was held in Wuhan, China, the birthplace of the virus. Tens of thousands of people attended the Wuhan Music Festival on May 1. Scenes of people dancing, singing and celebrating came out on social media. Crowds arrived at the festival without keeping social distance and wearing masks.

The government claims to have managed to control the epidemic. The video also shows his confidence to fight Covid. The celebration of the confident Chinese people has gone viral on social media. The Chinese government claimed that they controlled 80 percent of the Covid in China, by giving the exact vaccine.

Will everyone in India ever get vaccine to get rid of this contagious disease?. I don't know.

Please note. This is very important. This time COVID is behaving in a different way. When a patient tested positive, treatment is getting started and after 14 days he is becoming covid negative. But they are getting other complications and they are getting succumbed to death.
In our village, a couple were tested positive. They were admitted to the hospital and treated. They are cured. They came back home. After two days the lady died due to heart failure. The next day husband also died due to a heart attack. Another two ladies have got their brains damaged and they are in an unconscious state.

The present wave is not only more deadly but it has engulfed the whole country and many places the new peaks are now emerging. Those who are taking it lightly have to change their mindset and not only themselves but tell their friends and neighbours also about this and insist for taking the required precautions and safety measures. This is the time of high alertness and together we can save ourselves.

This deadly wave is converting its form day by day. As per the news, a new deadly variant of the virus is found in Andhra Praedsh that can spreads 15 times more than other variants. People getting scared more and more even they are trying to make themselves positive but the present atmosphere is not allowing them to do so. When a pandemic is spreading in this way country should follow the genome testing process at least 5% but at this time country is not following it even 1% of all over the cases. This will not work in this way, I agree that the medical system, government, people all are trying their level best but what situation and cases show nothing is working as we planned. As Dr. Rao informed that is true, I have also found the same pieces of news where people have been fought with corona and win the battle but after some days they are facing other health issues.

Anti Covid drug which was developed by DRDO has been cleared for emergency used by the center. That means instead of depending on vaccines this drug can mitigate the virus surge. Various organization and research institutes across the world are engaged to find out some wonder drug which can replace the vacciens and many are averse to have the vaccines for many fears. India also hoping to have own drug to control the virus and keep away much usage of vaccines in future.

Kerala and Maharashtra have given a role model for rest of all states and central government.
Kerala used extra doses to extra patients instead of wasting extra dose. And Maharashtra managed to face oxygen problem, even supreme court has praised Maharashtra government and advised all governments to follow their role model.

It is also being reported in social media that oxygen was sent by Saudi Arabia but Ambani group used their own sticker on it. Videos went viral on social media.

The cases are increasing and different places are getting different trends depending on the movement of infected people from one place to another. Due to rush in the hospitals and non availability of some crucial items sometimes the hospitals are also not able to treat the patients. Medicines are available but some crucial medicines are not available and being sold in the black market. The situation is quite bad but one thing that people should understand is that no Govt is prepared for such a massive surge of infections and our infrastructure is definitely not adequate to combat the calamity of this order. Blaming the Govt for everything will not help. The machinery which is working below is rusted for 73 years and in one day we feel that some miracle of some kind will happen and things would be streamlined. In spite of all these setbacks and shortcomings there are some sincere and honest people who are working day and night to help the Covid patients and putting their life in danger. I salute to such warriors.

    Umesh:
I think we should stop cursing 73 years now. We should see reality. We did not prepare to face second surge , we were given one year time but we did nothing. We are watching how much Help may come to us from other countries. Because our people are dying because we don't have oxygen ,medicine and other necessary things.
Do you remember our government gave us a slogan Atm nirbhar Bharat. It means we will be self reliant and self dependent. We will not depend on other countries for help but since we failed to prepare ourselves to face any challenge. If you have noticed that UPA government when came in power in 2004 it also promised to make India Atm Nirbhar Bharat. Tsunami, floods and natural calamities happened, foreign countries offered to send their help but Manmohan Singh government paying thanks said to them that India could face that problem herself.

Now in social media a trend is going on #ResignModiji. I do not know who are behind this petition on social media. People are angry with the governemnt because people are dying. This is a very difficult situation for us.
One of my relative who was the head of PWD died of corona three days ago. He could not get oxygen on time.
I have heard that Vista Project is going on in full swing.

In the ongoing bad times of the Corona epidemic, good news has come out in today's newspaper. According to which DRDO has found the best medicine to treat corona and it has also got approval from the Government of India provide its permission to the drug and it will also come in the market in about 1 week. Due to the effect of this medicine, the infection of the infected person will not increase much and he will not have the problem of lack of oxygen either. It is named 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG). This drug has come as a ray of hope. According to the news of the newspaper, this drug gets deposited in the infected cells and prevents the virus from growing by producing viral synthesis and energy. The special thing about this medicine is that it identifies the virus-infected cells. And they deal with them fast. If the speed of research of effective medicines and vaccination program is strong, then perhaps in the coming time the virus will harm fewer people.

  • #730095
K Mohan - "instead of depending on vaccines this drug can mitigate the virus surge" - please note that the drug is not an alternative to vaccines and will not mitigate the spread of the virus. It is for the treatment of those who have already got infected with the virus and will help them to recover quicker. Read Swati's response #730061. An alternative to the vaccine to prevent the virus from infecting us in the first place has not yet been made. Also, this DRDO drug will not be available over the counter.

I have been reading up research done on various aspects and would like to share some useful advice-
    1. One research study by a hospital brought out the possibility of common sewage lines being a cause of the quick spread of the virus in housing societies and highrise buildings. It has been accordingly advised to keep the lid of the toilet closed at all times when not in use and when you flush also you must keep the lid closed. This message was circulated on WhatsApp and I read similar reports of studies done in Hong Kong.

    2. Those who have been infected with the virus and recovered should dispose of their toothbrush, tongue cleaner, and anything else that they use for dental hygiene and buy new ones. This will prevent possible re-infection. In fact, even if you have seasonal flu, cold, or cough, you should be changing them as per the advice put forth by Dental specialists. Even otherwise, how many of us bother to change the toothbrush? We should be changing it every 3-4 months to prevent oral infection caused by bacteria/fungal growth.

I have successfully taken the second booster dose of vaccine today at the Malkajgiri health center and went at morning 8.30 am and got 93 as token number and was administered with vaccine at 11 am. I am fine and healthy. I thank the government doctors and nurse the center who are dealing with scores of patients with patience and I take a bow for their courage and rendering service with agility. I call upon other seniors of this site to get vaccinated soon as from 15 th the youth from 18 to 40 years are going to be vaccianated. and there is no chance for the seniors to get vaccinated either first or the second dose.

Finally Telangana cabinet has decided to impose lock down from 10 am to 6 am in the next day that means public would be allowed to purchase things and necessities for just four hours in the morning from 6 am to 10 am. The life is going to be paralysed as the private offices cannot work at the early mornings and eventually has to be closed down. However for the push cart vendors, it would be blessing for them as they can sell away the things in four hours and take rest the whole day. This could be second new expereience for us and I will report the same in this forum after the first day lock down tomorrow.

    K Mohan,

You said, "...as from 15th the youth from 18 to 40 years are going to be vaccinated. and there is no chance for the seniors to get vaccinated either first or the second dose." Kindly elaborate on what you mean by "no chance". Senior citizens who were unable to get the first dose/require the second dose are still eligible. In fact, at many vaccine centres there is a separate queue for senior citizens so that they don't have to wait in the longer queue. So how does the no chance possibility come up?

I think you need to be more clear rather than convey something that could spread misinformation and create panic.

I had specifically asked the head of the govt hospital after vaccinating that government gave enough time for the seniors to get vaccianted for the second time and for those who missed there is no word from them and the youth would be given chance from the 15th of this month and whole lots of stock has been recieved by them.

Even seniors also can have the vaccine after starting for the other age people. How they can be denied that. There may be many reasons for not going for the vaccination. So thinking that the senior and above 40 aged people will not have a chance after 15th of this month is not correct. Definitely, they will also be given a slot if they register for vaccination.

The situation becoming so worse, in UP the dead bodies of Corona patients were thrown into river the Ganga River. News indicates hundreds of dead bodies were floating in river. Authorities are fearing that the water of Ganga get severely polluted. On Monday night, due to lack of oxygen supply 11 covid patients died at a time in Ruiya hospital in Tirupathi.

I can give the information relevant to Malaysia only.

The total cases as on yesterday was 499000. Recovered 44500 and death 2199.

You can't see anybody without mask. The spot fine is RM1000. Only two persons in a car. Travel within the district only.

Generally people are self-disciplined and even then the wave II is very effective. Moreover, the daily rain supports the spreading of the wave (though not proven).

Take two or three pieces of clove and soak it in the mouth whenever possible.

We are seeing some flattening in the daily cases in our country and they are hovering in the range 2 to 3 lakhs. Few days back we all were very fearful as the cases were going beyond 4 lakhs and no one knew what would be the maximum number of daily cases. So, the situation is now apparently stagnant at a deadly place from where no one would like it to go again to high side. This is the effect of continuous lockdown at places and I feel that it has to be extended further until a conspicuous declining trend is observed. Yes, we are losing on business and commerce side and many shopkeepers (other than essential services) are affected miserably but there is no other option available right now with us. Please do not take the expected decreasing trend lightly and start to go out and merry with friends and relatives. We have to keep same level of caution as we are taking right now for at least a few months to come and if people do not cooperate then there will be 3rd wave from the 2nd wave itself without giving a dip in between and that would be a very bad situation. Every citizen has to cooperate and contribute otherwise we will all be in a very difficult situation and no Govt will be able to save us. Even vaccines will be of no use if we become careless as the effectiveness of vaccines is only 70-80%. This is time to be united and follow the guidelines. Avoid all fun and frolic as we can have it later if we are saved from this pandemic.

In Andhra Pradesh, in the Nellore district, Ayurvedic medicine is being offered to many people and the reports say that the medicine is giving good results and so far no negative remarks are there. ICMR experts also visited the village and doing some research about the medicine. The beauty is that the medicine is made with very commonly used food supplements and the medicine is being offered to patients freely. Even people who are not having Corona also can take this and they will not get Corona. That means it acts as a vaccine also, Irrespective of governments approvals, people rushing there to get that medicine. The medicine discovered by DRDO is also giving good results I read. If all these attempts are successful shortly we will win over Corona and start our normal style of living. Till such time, we all should follow all the protocols and we should be safe.

The second wave is at its apex and we do not know how much time it will take to recede and get contained. Govt s facing a great confusion at present as making lockdown is affecting the industry and jobs and not going for it is increasing the spread of the virus. This is a very difficult situation and can be resolved only with the full support of the citizens who have to take all care in stopping the spread of this deadly disease.
