United States of America puts Pegasus Spyware maker on trade blacklist.

The NSO group of Isreal is the maker of Pegasus Spyware. This spyware is sold only to governments or their agencies. This spyware is used to snoop on people by covertly installing it on mobile phones. A few months back there was news that this spyware is used in some countries including India. Now the United States of America has put the NSO Group on Trade Blacklist for 'Malicious Cyber Activities'. This step was taken after it was determined that the NSO's phone hacking tools had been used by foreign governments to "maliciously target government officials, journalists, business people, activists, academics, and embassy workers."

In India, the Union government said it was false news that the spyware was used by government agencies. A case against the government was filed in the Supreme Court by people whose mobiles were allegedly infected with the spyware. The Supreme Court of India appointed an expert committee to investigate the snooping allegations by the government agencies.

Let us appreciate the US government for its decision.
The committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India will investigate and submit their findings to the court and then the court will make a decision so that culprits will be penalised.
But here what I am not able to understand is why should we blame a product instead of blaming the person who misused the product. Instead of blacklisting the company, the government might have banned the use of this controversial software in their country. However, they are the best persons to take the correct decision.

Thanks to US for taking this drastic action though belated but very much welcome as there has been wholesome criticism across the world that the software was largely misused to snoop into the details of spying on those who the government has doubted. There has been serious allegation on the part of govt as it spied with officials , journos, top business and their moves with this illegal software. Now that the company has been banned, US should investigate the case in deeper as to who has ordered for India and on whom the company was able to snoop and what are the details. It is very dangerous to follow and watch someone secretly and this would draw wider criticism if proved that it was used on opposition leaders. Now we have to wait for the expert committee that is going to investigate further in the matter..

What you have said is inexplicable for me. Why US will investigate who has purchased this spyware for India. It is our government that has to do it.

Agree, and now we have to wait for the final report of the committee constituted by the SC.
