A fabulous Tamil TV serial with a big difference

Can three brothers and their mother, along with their wives, live happily in a semi-urban area? Can they share their joys, fun, sorrows and whatever, but still show the to the viewers that there is more to a joint family, than mere quarrels as is commonly believed in this IT age?

Over to Pandian Stores shown on a famous Tamil TV channel. It is reportedly dubbed and shown in Telugu as well. It is such a fabulous story. It takes the viewers to the environs of semi-urban Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. The local Tamil that is spoken in that part of the State is very much on view. The story is simple and direct. Everything is so natural about the serial that is reportedly one with the highest advertisement revenues across all serials in all Indian languages, including Hindi. Come 8pm, literally the entire Tamil Nadu audience gets glued to this serial.

This serial is a super-duper hit as it just shows what is happening in such environs. The characters are so real. Any young man will start relating to the eldest sister-in-law who actually sacrificed all her youth to literally bring up her three brothers-in-law. This character, played by a Malayalam TV actor, is simply fabulous, to say the least. There are millions of views on social media about this celebrity. Her sarees, her looks and her so natural acting. She is already a big star.

Hats off to the creators of this serial. One can only hope that there are other TV serials of the same kind.

There are many advantages when we live in a joint family. Average expenses per head will come down when we are a joint family and sharing of work will also be good in joint families. That is why in our olden days' people used to prefer joint families more than nuclear families. But days are changing and the mentality of the people is also changing and nucleus families are increasing.
I am not a regular watcher of TV and TV serials. So I am not aware of the serial mentioned by the author. But the concept as explained by the other appears to be good and related to advantages related to joint families. As such we should welcome such serials so that good messages will get into the minds of the viewers and that will help the people to have change in their thinking process.

Yes the Pandian stores serial was really gripping until the character Mullai was there and after her sudden death the serial was replaced with some other actor who could not sync with her caliber so we stopped watching the same. The serial is very natural with no dialogues at all and everything goes as the daily routine talking and the center of the story is the Pandian store which is managed by four brothers and elder brother does not have the children and therefore all the brothers are treated as child of them and the happenings are over this matter. But the way the elder brother acts flawlessly and the other characters do support the whole theme is awesome and for the first time in Tamil serial a non story line, with less cosmetics and wholesome family background going has been promised everyday and that is why it is hit.

Sivakumar, I understand that you are a great fan of this serial. But how many threads do you intend to raise on this serial with almost similar appraisals albeit with breaks in between? See 01 and 02. Please keep a note of what you post so that such repetitions are avoided.

The author is right. This serial depicts well about the joint family system and understanding between the brothers as well among their wives. Though some flirting find between the four wives this shows how one should not do like that. Moreover the director shows collective sitting in the hall and discuss or casual talking etc. freely. Respecting the elder brothers, affection by the eldest daughter- in-law on other brothers as if her own children are really good.
