Navigating these tough times: lessons for the middle classes

One success story or the other in recent times concerns those who made quick transition to acquire a new skill or two in the Covid-19 phase and move on; the rat race is one where only those with new skill sets will succeed.

Those who sought to minimize expenses and cut down on costs have done exceedingly well. It so happened that villages with very good connectivity in Western Tamil Nadu and in many places in Kerala, were sort of unaffected by Covid-19 in a big way. The IT employees made their way to their native places and had a whale of a time. Electricity expenses came down as did petrol expenses. The rather unpolluted environments helper them to be in good health and today, the IT companies want these guys to continue there. Work from home is a new reality.

Such arrangements are here to stay. Acquiring new skills is compulsory.

During the pandemic time many companies closed their operations especially those who could not shift to online mode because of operational reasons. In such situations only those business houses could survive who had innovative ways to cope up with the changing times.

No doubt the IT employees are made to survive this toughest time of their life, thanks to work from home culture that was hesitant to accept in the first instance and later become a habit. There was some complaints that by doing work from home the productivity and output of employee has increased and more responsibility delegated. Since the work from home was the cause, the employees used to move in wherever they want and visit places of interest and worship and thus they could able to well connect with the lost relations, lost and forgotten people and moreover carrying on their work task fully. Now also the Hyderabad IT employees are given the order to work from home and that is becoming be beneficial as even the marriages and functions are being held without taking to much exert on themselves.

Improving our skillset and acquiring new skills is a real requirement always for a person to progress in career. By acquiring new skills we will increase our chances of getting hired for better remuneration. Especially people who are in their initial times of career improving their skills is a very essential requirement.
As mentioned by the author there are some people who shifted to rural areas during these COVID days because of the working from home chance given by the companies. That helped them in saving some money and also more comfortable. With the availability of the internet, even villages also are getting all facilities like online purchasing and OTTs etc. The only problem is schools to the children and once the schools get opened the families has to shift to cities.
Middle class people especially people who lost their jobs due to covid are suffering a lot and still they are in search of a way to live.
