The sixteenth presidential election in India will be held on 16 July. The opposition parties in India have announced Yashwant Sinha as their consensus candidate. Sinha was a former minister in the BJP-led NDA government under the Primeministership of Atal Bihari Bajpai.

However, the present BJP-led NDA has chosen the former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate. She was also considered a presidential candidate five years ago when President Pranab Mukherjee was to retire.

Draupadi Mumru is a BJP leader who belongs to the Santhal tribe of Odisha and hails from the Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. Before entering politics, she was a teacher. She was the ninth Governor of Jharkhand during the period 2015 to 2021. She won the MLA election twice in 2000 and 2009 on a BJP ticket and was a minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha. She was selected as the best MLA by the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2007 and received the Nilkantha award.

Now India would witness the ultimate fight between the election between a tribal and a rebel. While BJP has to be appreciated for the best choice of selecting a Odisha based Tribal leader Draupadi Murmu as the sure shot 16th President of India, the opposition caught unaware and zeroed on Yashwant Sinha who turned rebel in BJP then. Though Yashwant Sinha seems to be educated and knows how to conduct to the office of highest post, the take is between the tribal and the rebel and BJP choice can easily score over the opposition choice because if the parties reject the tribal candidate, then their vote banks for the general election would have greater say and affect their prospects. Once again great googly played by Amit Shah and his team and Mamta and her team sent packing with humiliating mode and they cannot show the face.

I had heard her name earlier although she is not very famous. She is a tribal teacher and political leader from Odisha. She had been an MLA and later a minister in the Odisha Cabinet. She also received 'Best Legislator' award in Odisha Assembly. Later she became the Governor of Jharkhand.

She has an honest image. No controversy is associated with her.

The details about Smt Draupadi Murmu have been published today in almost all leading newspapers across the country. Her candidature was expected and this is considered to be a strategic move of taking cover by the NDA which is looking for a change from the upper caste image keeping in the mind the upcoming elections.

Smt Draupadi Murmu had risen to top positions from her humble past and is said to be a very good legislator with a sharp knowledge about policy matters. If the calculations go as expected, she will be the first tribal President of India and let us hope that she delivers her responsibilities as the Supreme head of the nation as envisaged by the Constitution of India.

Her selection for the presidential post would certainly help the present government to maintain its image when the public would know that government takes care of all the communities including the tribes. As far as the selection of this lady is concerned, she is knowledgeable and has won the best legislature award from Orissa Government
.She is well acquainted with the administrative skills and for her, it would not be difficult to converse with the different political brass amicably.
She is known for her honest image and hence no controversy is likely to encountered.

Smt Draupadi Murmu was an MLA in Odisha and former Governor of Jharkhand. She is not known to many and but now her name is news as an NDA candidate for the President of India elections. She is known for honesty and non-controversial conduct so far in politics.Yashwant Sinha is also a non-controversial candidate but he came out of BJP after Modi became the PM. Probably, the opposition is of the opinion that he will get some votes from BJP also as he may have some followers there. Anyhow it will be good if she wins the elections. She will become the first tribal president of India.

What I could understand from her profile that she has the ability to take along the ruling and opposition parties through her experience and vast knowledge of politics and people of the country. My advance congrats to her. What I feel that she should be elected unopposed and Mamta and her supporting parties pitten Yashwant Sinha against her which proves that they do not have respect for her being hailed from the tribal region. NDA always brought best candidates to the post of President and that started with Dr Abdul Kalaam, then the Present President Kovind and now Draupadi Murmu. All these candidates were not the supporters of BJP and yet the party considered them fair.

No, I never heard her name before. After researching on her name, I found some more interesting details about her.
If Draupadi Murmu gets selected as the President of India, she will become the first president born after independence. Not only this year but in the year 2017 also her name was considered for a Presidential post but later Ramnath Kovind's name become final. There were 20 candidates' names discussed with BJP party for the nomination for this post but her name made it to the final because the party wanted a women President.
With elections coming in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, this move from BJP might help to get some more seats from the Scheduled Tribes. Hope the image she has so far could create a better image of India in near future.

I was familiar with the name of Srimati Draupadi Murmu as she was in the news when selected as Governor of Jharkhand , and also during the last time presidential election time as a name which was discussed.

But more than that I was not knowing much about her and immediately on hearing her selection as Presidential candidate I searched the net to dig out more info about her including her speeches .
