Promotional message and their clever technique

We know how we get irritated by the promotional messages. Every time there is a message tone, we quickly check whether it is an important message but no. There is someone who will try to sell a credit card, or someone willing to provide you with a loan. Some company is providing you with cashback and some offer you a good discount on products. Now, I see a different way they started sending promotional messages which I feel is not a good trend. I have my bank app on my mobile from this I do all my banking activity and other IRCTC from where I book my traveling tickets. If I have a bank app, I should get the bank-related messages and with IRCTC, I should get travel regarding messages that I have booked. However, I started getting different companies, different offers, etc. from these 2 apps. While it is their responsibility, they should keep the promotional messages up to their work field. Yes, we can off notification messages from any app but how could you off the notification from an important app. This is what they are taking advantage which is not correct.

In addition to promotional calls these days these promotional messages are disturbing us a lot. Many spam messages and reading them and deleting them is a waste of time. They are very disturbing. True caller is identifying spam calls and giving us an indication saying that the call is a fake call. The same app is identifying spam and promotional messages and gives a hint saying that the same may be a promotional or spam message. Many of these messages are of no use to us and waste only.

We are living in an age of digital marketing and online promotions. Everyone is trying to sell one's product or services through these channels. We are using many apps and programmes for some work online and the companies smell our presence everywhere and can target us through many messages and notifications. We might block and stop some of them but there are many intelligent ways through which they can enter our screen. Once I was searching for some items in the web space and the next day I found that many online sites like Amazon started to tell me about that item and the variety available in their store. Google Map tells me that I had visited such and such store last week. I get a large number of messages which are mainly for promotions. The bad part is sometimes I am not getting some genuine messages that I was expecting from my bank or insurance agency or Post Office or any such agency where I had done some transaction. For that, I have to phone them and ask manually and then they will advise me to go online and find that there. The garbage will be pouring in continuously and it is difficult to find genuine and reliable messages out of that.

It is true that various companies are finding different ways to promote their businesses and sending us messages through different means and in many cases we do not have options to avoid them. But we can employ certain settings and apply a couple of measures that can help us to some extent. We can make our numbers registered with National Customer Preference Register (NCPR) so that such promotional calls and messages can be reduced a lot. But in this case, it may not help as you are getting advertisements from the Apps. When we install apps, in some cases it is mentioned that the app contains ads which indicates that by installing the app you will receive various advertisement notifications. You can stop unwanted notifications from some apps by allowing only important notifications which will not be advertisements for sure.

I am sharing two screenshots side by side here which may help you to some extent. It is the screenshot of the Ola app where I have marked the 'Show notifications' in red. If you put it off you will not get any notification. On the other hand, even if you keep the 'Show notifications' on you can keep the individual notifications off which I have marked in yellow in the first screenshot. In the second screenshot you will find that though the notifications are on, individual notifications under 'Promotions' and 'Ride and Account Details' are put off. Like that, you can try if it is available in the two apps you are talking about.

I have realized that I cannot change the world, i.e., digital marketing. Therefore, I have changed myself that looked easier.

Nobody has time to contact you without wanting to earn money from you. There is nothing like offers or discounts or such other traps. They want to trap you to fleece money from you.

Daily, I delete so many emails without reading them. Similarly, deleting several WhatsApp messages and notifications has become a daily chore. These days, messages on WhatsApp mention that you are appearing in this video'. If you click on that link, you will, get connected to them and become a victim of receiving their promotional garbage regularly.

Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.

Post Pandemic the promotional activities through the cell phones has increased immensely and even the public are not lodging any complaint because there are some information which is useful and good. For example I am getting whatsapp message about car rentals and car hiring on monthly basis and that is good. Sometimes we would need such kind of services and may not get the right information. But there is a limit for anything. Getting promotional message from the Bank app is something not heard in the past. One thing is sure when we use any app, Google has been controlling the same, may be they are passing our sensitive information and contact numbers to the promotional message givers and thus we are getting those messages. Google has become more money minded and in the name of vignettes ads they are testing our patience.

Yes, you might be disturbed with the frequent messages appearing on your mobile phone. It might be not a single time but the same will appear multiple times in a day if you don't block their messages. Their main thrust is to lure the customers with a new product, they have devised. Even if you are no more interested to see such promotional advertisements, they would taste your patience with more uploading of such contents. The remedy lies in the closing down such notifications which are appearing frequently.

I would advise everyone not to click on any links, not even out of curiosity, whether in email communications or a WhatsApp message or an SMS. I have read reports of people clicking on links and thus giving access to their phone data to hackers who then may get access to your bank details or payment apps also if you are using the phone for transactions and siphon off money from your accounts.

In this digital era, we could not avoid such promotional messages so it is our self-understanding to manage these things, because if a person will look for something on one platform all other platforms will start to provide recommendations with the related product. It is because of the same mobile number which we registered or may be due to our email id. So sometime we could not avoid it but be alert. As Vandana ma'am also suggested we should never click on such any link or should not open a URL for which we are not sure, it is from where.
