Let's cheer for Team India as the sportspersons of our country participate in various disciplines the mega international CWG 2022!
  • Category: General

Commonwealth Games 2022 let's wish our players and celebrate their achievements!

The Commonwealth Games, called CWG in short is starting on 28th July 2022 in Birmingham, England. In the last edition of CWG in 2018 we had won a total of 66 medals and were third after Australia and England. This time after much success in Tokyo Olympics, we will hope for even more medals. Some of the superstars like Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu are all hoping for the Gold. However, we can see many more such superstars in this CWG. Women's cricket is the first time added into the game so we can hope for a medal from them as well. After a great show in the Tokyo Olympics by our Men's Hockey team, we can also expect a Gold medal from them.

So, my best wishes to all the sportspeople who are going to participate in their different filed. Wish them all the best and good luck!

I sincerely thank Jeets for raising this relevant thread. This year, Commonwealth Games is being held at Birmingham. I have no doubt that Indian contingent will bring greater glory for the nation.

Best wishes, Indian contingent! Occupy the top slot in the medals tally in the Commonwealth Game.

Frankly speaking media is not highlighting the impending big Commonwealth Games slated to be held from 28th July and India has the large stake in winning most of the honors as we have golden performers like Neeraj, Sindhu , Chanu and many who want to make a foray into medal hauling tally. Good that for the first time even cricket is also included and our women cricket is very strong and we would certainly have a say in this game. My hearty wishes to all the contingents of all the disciplines and surely they would play to their fullest potential and keep the country proud. The players would play further vigor because India is going to celebrate 75th Independence day and therefore the medal hauls would be the best tribute on this occasion and each Indian would take pride of great display of players in each discipline they play. Waiting for the same.

There is not much news around these games. These commonwealth games are going to start on the 28th of this month at Birmingham. Our team is going to participate in these games and there are many expectations. India is a strong participant in these games. On the first day of the tournament, the Indian women's cricket team and the Indian Men's hockey team will be playing their respective games. There are many hopes and we expect the players to perform well and bring medals to our country. I wish all the participants a happy and fruitful tournament. Play well and make us proud.

Indian sports persons are doing better in the international events since a few years and I think the credit goes to the changed Govt policies in this regard where emphasis is being given for the encouragement of the people for participating in them as well as providing them good facilities to improve their performance. Another aspect is that it brings fame and success to the winning candidates and it is natural that their interest lies in achieving that difficult target. We must understand that in many countries sports are being pursued as a matter of national pride and there are very good players and candidates around and we cannot be just happy that because last time our players won so this time also we would be counting the gold medals just like that. It is not so and was never like that in past also and it is imperative that our players have to do a very hard work and sustained efforts to make the name of India on the first place in these forthcoming CWG.

We will keep this thread open right through the CWG for everyone to discuss the successes and disappointments, what's happening on the sidelines, etc. All the best Team India! Let's see multiple podium finishes in every event!

However, we had a bad news that Neeraj Chopra a big hope for the Gold is out of the tournament
    due to injury.

For that matter it is always a matter of great pride when we see large number of Indian contingent participating in the opening and close ceremonies of big sporting event across the country and at that time every Indian would certainly wish that more glories be brought to the country. Whether it is gold, silver or bronze, the medals matter to us and we cherish every performance of the sports person of all discipline and as soon as they come back to the respective states , the huge welcome and honoring them would also takes place certainly. So keeping in view all the aspirations and expectations of each Indians the players are also having huge responsibilities to outbeat the opponent and bring the medals. My sincere wish to every contingent by name from our country to display their best sporting talent and bring glory to India.

It was sad that India lost the opening match against Australia in the women's cricket competition. We made a decent score and the superb bowling spell by Renuka Thakur of four wickets and conceding 18 runs seemed to indicate a victory for us, but it was not to be. Credit to Ashleigh Gardner, Grace Harris, and Alana King for keeping their cool and taking the team home to success.

In other events, India won in women's hockey, the mixed badminton team events, boxing, squash, and table tennis, but did not fare well in cycling and gymnastics. It was heartening to know that in men's swimming, an event that India has yet to medal in, Srihari Nataraj made a personal best time of 53.77 seconds to enter the final of the 100m backstroke event. Well done!

The news pertaining to Hima Das is fake I understand. The track and field events will start on 2nd August. So there is no chance of winning today. Gururaja Poojary won a bronze medal in 61 Kg weight lifting. Congratulations.

Huge thanks to Mirabai Chanu for having got the first gold for India in the weightlifting category and that was the huge win because there was no competition near her and that proved she was destined to get the gold for the country. And this Manipur girl has lifted the spirit of other performers in the games to eye for gold as Indian players has many chance to outbeat the performance of players from many countries. When the stadium was stunned with her performance and obviously during the awarding ceremony "Mira tum ho India ka hira" were seen shouting from the supporters and that made her laugh to accept the coveted gold medal for the country. The medal was ensured because she was way ahead with 25 kg better performance from her nearest rival and therefore the win was just a cake walk as if shopping for gold.

Congratulations to Mirabai Chanu for the first Gold medal for India in this Commonwealth Games.

(Shame on NDTV for providing false information at least in two occasions regarding India's medals. Why do I still rely on this terrible channel?)

    Partha,

Why blame a news channel? It is always best to confirm any news oneself. Even Sehwag tweeted about Hima Das and netizens called him out on it. It was a medal she had won in an athletics competition in 2018, and in CWG '22 she is not even a participant in the 400m event. She will race in the 200m event, and is part of the 4x100m relay event.

It was great to see India making a good start with 4 medals in the weightlifting event. Bindyarani Sorokhaibam also won a silver in the women's 55 kg weightlifting.

The biggest disappointment was our team losing in the women's table tennis team event to Malaysia. Team India is the defending champions and to crash out at an early stage was really unfortunate and shocking.

    Partha,

This is a major international sporting competition. All you need to do is to check the official website of the CWG '22. Under the schedule Tab, you can select the date and the sport and see the results, check upcoming sessions, etc.

Now let's stick to the main topic and not divert into how to confirm details!

A very bad loss to India. The Indian team lost to Malaysia in the women's table tennis. We expected a medal in this event. Congratulations to Mirabai Chanu for the first Gold medal for our country. Let us wait for some more medals in the coming days of this tournament.

    CWG Highlights Day 8
India has shown its power in wrestling and won 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals making it a total of 6 Medals in the wrestling events. Indian wrestler and CWG Gold medalist Bajrang Punia has defended his title winning with winning the Gold medal. Later Sakshi Malik and Deepak Punia won the Gold. Anshu Malik lost in the final but settled for the Silver and Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewa both won the Bronze. Sprinter Hima Das has been qualified for the semifinals in 200m. Our team is doing well and reached the 5th position on the medals list. 4th country is Newzeeland. So far, 9 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 9 bronze medals are in our account. I Hope India will win many more in the coming 2 or 3 days.
The women's hockey team played well but unfortunately lost in the semi-finals.

We've won 40 medals so far with a rich haul of 13 gold! The silver medallist winners are 11, and there are 16 bronze medallists.

The most incredible wins yesterday were in the track and field events. Avinash Sable won a silver medal in the very gruelling 3000m Steeplechase event, with a time of 8:11.20 to win India's first-ever Steeplechase Medal at the CWG. What a race it was! Did you watch it? Right at the last minute, he lunged across the finish line and missed out on the gold by a whisker, but it was heart-warming and what one would call an "as good as gold" moment. Then there was Priyanka Goswami, surprising everyone with a silver medal in the women's 10,000m race with a surge in the last couple of kms. Wow!

Let us not forget our Para Athletes at the CWG 2022 who are participating in athletics, para powerlifting, swimming, and table tennis. The medals they win are also considered in the Tally. While Sudhir won the gold in powerlifting, Bhavina Patel (a silver medallist at the Tokyo Paralympics) won a gold medal in table tennis, and Sonalben Manubhai Patel won a bronze in the same sport.

In cricket, the women's team will meet Australia in the final after they defeated England with a four-run win. Will they win and halt the record of their opponents, who have won the gold in all editions?

Indian hockey women's team won bronze. As of now, the medals tally is as follows.
    Gold: 17, Silver: 13. Bronze: 19. Total: 49.
India has overtaken New Zeeland and came to 4th position in the medals list. Hope they may win some more medals and come out with flying colours. An excellent performance.

Something remarkable has happened in steeplechase. Kenyan athletes have been enjoying complete domination in this event for a quite long time. But this time, Indian athlete Avinash Sable has resisted Kenyan hegemony with the steeplechase silver. He is now getting enormous international attention.
