This will be a big restriction to the players.

The international cricket council is going to bring in some changes in the rules and regulations of the game. To this effect, there was an announcement from ICC.

Now many batsmen as per the requirement batters may be coming out of the pitch and playing the ball. If such a thing happens hereafter, that ball will be treated as a dead ball and no runs will be given to the batter.

If the bowler bowls the ball forcing the batsman to come out of the pitch, that particular ball may be treated as No Ball. That will be an advantage to the batting side.

I feel it is a very big restriction for both batters as well as the bowlers. I like to know the views of other members on this particular rule.

If the rules are being changed for the betterment of the game and increasing its reception at the spectator side then it is a welcome measure. Moreover the rules will be same for both the teams so there is no bias in that. Only thing is the players have to take cognisance of these new rules and align themselves in accordance to them. Probably the international cricket board is doing it to bring more discipline in the game.

I think Mr. Rao has misunderstood the outside cricket pitch terms. The rule says if the ball is pitched outside of the cricket pitch and if a batter tries to hit it coming out the pitch, the ball will become a dead ball. I feel this rule should have been made long back. Earlier if a bowler throws a ball after the follow-through and mistakenly got pitched outside of the pitch, the batsman had every right to reach the ball and hit it because the ball was not dead. We have seen many such an incident which was not good at all from the bowler's point of view.

A cricket pitch is 22 yards from one stump to another side of the stump. There is a popping crease near the stump where batters have to be inside of it while playing. He can still come out of his popping crease and hit the ball. Coming out of the popping crease is not coming out of the pitch. Here coming out of the pitch means if a batsman comes out of the 22 yards pitch where playing grounds start and hit the ball, then the ball will be a dead ball. Same way if a bowler throws his ball outside of the pitch means his ball is pitched outside of the 22 yards pitch (on the ground). This rule will not affect both bowlers and batters.

Jeets, Thank you for your detailed submission. I understood the same point. But I have not given that much explanation. Jeets is a good sportsperson having some good experience in cricket also. I understood the whole concept in detail.
