A Superstar Star is no more - a special tribute to Ravi Shankar
The morning today brought devasting news. One of our most respected and much-loved members, Ravi Shankar is no more. He went peacefully in the early hours, leaving an abrupt void that cannot be filled. I am filled with grief and sorrow, the tears coming unbidden.Ravi Shankar was a kind and gentle person, something that came out through one of his threads where he mentioned contributing some of his ISC earnings to charity. I came to know, too, many facets of his lovely personality through direct interaction with him through our online communications which established a close friendship between us, something that is rare in a virtual world and one which I will cherish forever.
As a member here, we all know that not a day would pass without seeing his contributions in the jobs sections. He also contributed to other sections, such as schools, colleges, and even exam question papers. He stood tall month after month at the top of the list of RSB-eligible members and in the list of payees. He inspired many of us to contribute more, take pride in our work, and strive to achieve our goals. He was also a mentor and guide to many. Despite a couple of health issues that once even kept him away from ISC for some months, he determinedly returned, continuing his wonderful contributions as though nothing had happened. Let us not forget his work as an editor, the tasks assigned to him taken up with equal zest, always participating in our discussions with valuable input.
On his profile page, he wrote, "My intention here at ISC is to stay for a long time and just concentrate on quality contribution without any anticipation." Yes, he stayed around for a long time, right from August 2009.
You left too soon, Ravi Sir.
We'll miss your indefatigable zeal, and your quiet presence that, at the same time, sparked a competitive spirit amongst others.
Adieu my friend. R.I.P.
