Will the women's IPL become popular?

Many cricket fans are also huge fans of the IPL, what with Indian and international players on the same team, and high entertainment with smashing sixes and unexpected victories attained in the last over of a game.

We will now have a women's IPL as well, starting in March next year, with five franchises. With the popularity of women's cricket on the rise with the T20 competitions in various parts of the globe, will this league also become hugely popular in drawing crowds to the stadiums and viewers to the screens?

Mind you, these matches can be as exciting as any other regular cricket match. Just yesterday, Sri Lanka unexpectedly won their match against Pakistan in a last-ball thriller and entered the Women's Asia Cup finals, where they will meet India. So are you going to be watching the Women's IPL matches?

Women matches not only in cricket but in other sports are also getting popular day by day and the viewership is increasing. Today women are actively participating in many sports activities which were earlier reserved for the men. They are also taking jobs of all kinds from receptionist to an army officer. Given an equal playing field their performances are also going to increase substantially.
Another important thing is the sponsorship. If the sponsors and advertising agencies give due preference to the women sport matches then these matches will definitely become more popular.

These days women are playing a better role in sports and games field. Of course, in many other fields also they are overtaking men. Women won many medals in the last Olympics also. Thus more people are getting attracted towards watching the games played by them.
I watch all cricket matches irrespective of women or men. Sometimes I may skip them because of some other important assignment. I will watch only selected IPL matches. As I stay in Hyderabad I have a liking towards Hyderabad Sun Risers. So I will watch all the matches played by them. In addition to that some other matches.
Coming to Women IPL, I may see initially all the matches and then if they are interesting, I will continue seeing other matches also. I hope the women's IPL also will be more interesting than the men's IPL.

Umesh- I did not understand the reference to jobs! How is the fact that women take on varied work (and a receptionist job is nothing new for them) related to the popularity of a women's edition of IPL?

I watched a few of the women's matches when they were playing in the international leagues and really enjoyed them. So I am surely going to watch the inaugural IPL next year.
