Ohm Shanti! The great soldier of Longewalla has departed yesterday

Almost all of us have watched Border film of J.P. Dutta. In that film, there was a character of Bhairon Singh (leader of the BSF contingent assisting the Alpha Company of 23 Punjab at Longewalla post). The role was played by Suniel Shetti. In the film, Bhairon Singh lost his life after putting an anti-tank mine under a Pakistani tank.

But those who are completely aware of the unbelievable story of Battle of Longewalla which took place during 4-6 December 1971, do know that India lost only two soldiers during this fight which destroyed the Pakistani Army (Paki 38 Cavalry + Paki 206 Infantry Brigade) at Rajasthan-Sindh sector. Another injured soldier lost his life after the war. Only 120 soldiers of Alpha Company of 23 Punjab and a Camel Contingent of BSF under Major (later Brigadier) KS Chandpuri destroyed the enemy. In the next morning, some WWII-era aircrafts from Jaisalmer Airbase finished the Paki tanks in the desert.

The great fighter Bhairon Singh survived the fierce battle and got Sena Medal for his gallantry at Longewalla. The valiant soldier left for his heavenly abode yesterday (19th December 2022) at Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Ohm Shanti, Naik Bhairon Singh (Retd.), SM!

The author has reminded us about the longewala battle 1971 which took place at India-Pakistan border and in which late army Naik Bhairon Singh, SM exhibited extraordinary courage and bravery.
Bhairon Singh is no more but the story of his exemplary courage will remain glorious for ever in Indian history.
I pay my whole hearted respect to the departed soul and pray almighty for the soul to rest in peace.

Naik Bhairon Singh was a BSF personnel. His contingent was briefly attached to Alpha Company of 23 Punjab just before the Battle of Longewalla.

Feeling disinterested to give reasons for the attachment.
