We should think ourselves in that situation

We are, almost everybody, facing this situation by our own selves. Irrespective of South, North, East or West bound trains, we are seeing or facing the occupation of unreserved passengers in the reservation coaches. Many of them occupying the reserved seats and argues or requests to adjust. In some trains the checking authorities are not coming, in some trains they do going as unnoticed.
The problem is to the passengers who are coming with reservation. The passengers with unreserved tickets should think their position by themselves if they face such situation.

The author is right. Earlier I used to travel frequently to Kerala, once Kerala bound train enters Pothanur, all super fast trains are ordinary trains. Here monthly ticket holders by force wake up sleeper passengers to give for space to sit. Ticket checkers, aware everything, and silent.

I had a very bad experience, when I boarded Pushpsk Express at Jhansi to Kanpur, I was holding confirmed ticket, five general ticket passengers occupied my seats, I had showed my ticket also, they refused to vacate my seat.

This is mainly happening because of the lack of strict administration in railway system. Indian Railway is a very big department and there are many activities where their administration and monitoring is not up to the standard. The ticket checkers and coach conductors are well aware of these problems but keep quite as they do not get much support from the top. They also avoid confronting with the daily commuters who are in a big group and can create problems at any time.
There is a lot of overall improvement required in the working of Indian railways if we have to stop this thing happening in the reserved coaches.

    Knowledge is power.

I am sure, everyone who has travelled by train must have experienced such a situation at one time or the other. This is true for most train routes in India, be it west, east south or north. There are two reasons mainly for such situations arising every now and then. First, as some of you have already addressed, it is the administrative failure to check such practices. Secondly, inadequate means of cheap transportation in the country. Railways are the cheapest mode of travel and as such are preferred by most. Moreover, there is also the possibility of travelling ticketless, which would not be possible in any other mode of travel. As a result, most, especially the not so well-off prefer travelling by train, unmindful of reservations and unmindful of the difficulties that reserved passengers face because of them. Ours being a highly populated but not so rich country, there are no immediate solutions to this, as it will take time to build up the infrastructure (it is already vast) to sort out such issues of crowded trains. However, privatisation could help to some extent, as we have seen in other modes of transportation like airways and roadways.

This problem is less in South India when compared to other parts of India. Once I was travelling from Bhilai to Hyderabad in the 2nd AC compartment. In the night somebody came and sat near my feet on the berth. I asked him to get up as it was inconvenient for me. He said that he took the TCs permission. I called the coach attendant and that passenger started scolding the coach attendant. Meanwhile, the station came and that passenger got down. Then fellow passengers told me that types of incidents were common in that area.
Compared to those days, we are seeing less disturbance these days. Now police are also available in running trains. The individuals should understand the problem. If they have no reservations, they should travel in the general compartment. Instead of getting illegally into reserved compartments. After computerisation, there is a substantial decrease in such illegal occupancies.
