It is time to grant the poor and the elders all relief

The Government of India is doing all it can to suppress the poor and senior citizens, which is not healthy at all. For example, trains that travel up to 70 kilometers as the pre-Covid passenger trains, have not become express trains. The local vendors, who would use the train passes to board these trains and sell their local vegetables, fruits, unbranded textiles, bangles, and so on, are now totally affected. For, the express trains do not stop at all stations. It is not enough to keep on giving lectures. The Government has to prove that it really cares for the poor. Similarly, senior citizens have been deprived of concessions in fares. This has really hit senior citizens.

Most senior citizens do not enjoy the big pensions, that the old-timers of the Government services do;. These people now live in posh retirement homes near the metro cities. The rest, the vast majority, are made to suffer. The Government should grant the concessions in the form of expanding benefits under Section 80C to 2.5 lahks for senior citizens and also introduce IT relief of Rs.50000 for all treatment of everyday ailments and another 2 lakh for big medical expenses in a financial year. However, if the senior citizen remains healthy, this concession need not be given.

Unless we have something on our hands, we just cannot live, as we will have no money to spend. Inflation is upwards of 8 percent at the retail level and it is high time that the poor and the senior citizens are allowed some relief.

I wholeheartedly support the notion that it is time to grant the poor and the elders all relief. It is a moral obligation for society to care for those who are most vulnerable, especially during times of hardship and crisis.

The elderly and the poor are often disproportionately impacted by economic and social challenges, and they deserve support to help them through these difficult times. This support could take many forms, such as financial assistance, access to healthcare, and affordable housing. Providing relief to these groups can also have a positive impact on the broader community, as it helps to reduce inequality and promote social cohesion.

Furthermore, providing relief to the elderly and the poor is not only a moral imperative but also an economic one. These groups often have limited financial resources, which can result in decreased spending and slower economic growth. By providing them with support and relief, we can help to stimulate economic activity and promote a more robust and inclusive economy.

Hence, providing relief to the poor and the elderly is both a moral and economic imperative. It is time for society to step up and provide support to those who need it most, so that we can build a more equitable and prosperous future for all.

The author is perfectly right. Presently many elderly persons either individual or couple are living in the isolated level either because of 1) destitute by their children 2) where the children in foreign countries 3)having no children 4) having left by spouse. The situation in their middle age also some what tolerable but at the old age and that too facing health problems is unexplainable. The neighborhood people when identified such persons in their area, can offer their support to possible extent. As many people of the present period are not with needy money to pull on their daily bread. Their living pattern never allow them to ask help from others. If we, any one of us, starts helping others in this connection it will get spread and many will come to extend their hand.
