When it is out of the box!

In this brand new year many might be nurturing some out-of-the-box ideas. If you are one of them that's absolutely fine because thinking in a different way can often lead to new discoveries. After all, it is really exciting to implement your new thoughts that no one tried before. Often we hear many influencers telling us that thinking out of the box is the way to a more successful life.

Well, let me be frank. Here, I will not be able to influence you with some out-of-the-box ideas but can tell you something that is really interesting. The other day I went to my friend's house to greet them on the new year and was chatting with them. After a while came the kid who was pushing a medium-sized box out of the room. My friend told me that one of his Uncles sent this new year gift to his child and the child wants the gift to be opened and hence pushing the box towards my friend. My friend unpacked the box and opened it. A wonderful dancing doll came out of the box and the reaction of the kid upon seeing the doll was something which cannot be expressed in words. His joy and excitement completely changed the atmosphere of the room and I understood that toys when come out of the box can also create magic.

The author has used the direct meaning of the words in the phrase 'out of the box' and that has made this post very interesting. I will like to add that in today's online shopping environment many households are getting packed boxes regularly. These boxes contain various merchandise items ordered by the members of the family. While unpacking and opening them the members are curious to see the product which had come as a home delivery item. I can visualise the family members curiously waiting for the item to be unpacked and I can compare their happiness with that of the boy who was so happy getting a toy out of the gift box.

Generally, many of us used to go and purchase items that are required of us. But the pandemic and work-from-home cultural made us order many things online. Another advantage of online ordering is that we can raise an order anytime when we remember the need for a particular item. In our house, my two sons and I will be ordering online. So many things will be coming daily. On average we will be receiving 3 or 4 boxes daily. So the moment courier comes all of us will be looking at the barer to know the name of the person to whom the box is addressed.
Sometimes the item we are expecting after a day or two may be arriving early and that used to make us very happy. Even after the pandemic the habit of online wondering has not come down and it is going on at the same speed.

Something similar happened with us too. The other day while arranging up things at home, we came across a small cardboard box kept at a corner on one of the shelves. On the first glance, we were not able to recollect anything about it. Curious to know what was inside, I opened it and lo, there was this thing that I had been looking up for quite a while! The items were plain simple hooks that had a sticky surface and can be easily stuck on walls or any smooth surface for hanging up light objects like calendars, etc. We had ordered them months back, used a few of the hooks and forgot about the rest. In between there was a requirement for more of them, but could not find the rest of the stock. Therefore, it came as a pleasant surprise, when on opening the box came across those plain, simple but useful sticky hooks. Something out of the box experience, you may say.

Online delivery makes our kids curious to know what is inside the package. Though we tell them constantly that the contents inside the packing is not for them and then disappointment could be seen in their face but that, too, for the time being. We could notice the same glow earlier present in their face. They would not move away from the site so easily but are eager to know what exactly it is inside the covered box. Once they have witnessed the unpacking process, they would move slowly from the spot as if they had failed in their examinations.

By reading the post of the author, I remember one incident happened two decades ago in a marriage of my relative. As in those days the reception was solemnized mostly on the evening of the marriage day, the couple received many gifts. We all sat round on the ground and opening all the gifts. Among them one big box was there so, we kept to open the same in the last. At the last we opened the box by the bride. She found a box in box further and further inside. At last the big box contains a very small box which contains two silver rings for both the couple. For a fun the giver, who was a common friend for both of them, kept seven box over and over for a single ring. It was initially sullen us but after opening the last box we all laughed louder.
