Recycle electronic waste as much as possible

India is the third largest electronic waste-producing country. China and the USA are in 1st and 2nd places. India is producing about 3.4 lakh tonnes of electronic waste per annum. Every year we are witnessing an increase by a minimum of 3%.

Many waste pickers are not aware of the pollution problems that are being created by the open burning of this waste. This is causing pollution in many cities. These pickers are not having any concerns about pollution

The Pollution Control boards of the central government and the state governments should work together and see that the majority of the waste will be recycled after proper treatment so that pollution problems will be minimised. How to control open burning is a big question to be answered by them.

Managing electronic waste is a big challenge today. People are using a large number of electronic items and discarding them as soon as they stop working or become old-fashioned. Mobile phones, electronic watches, electronic toys, and many other such items are being used in very very large numbers and these are getting accumulated as electronic garbage everywhere.
There is a lot of scope for recycling these items as there are many metallic parts and other items which can be recycled easily. The problem is basically in collecting the items from various places and bringing them to a central agency where they can be recycled cost-effectively.

    Knowledge is power.

Electronic items really pose problems in relation to handling since these items are thrown away sometimes in dustbins without taking care of its hazardous nature. Such dumping creates health threats to the human health. What is required from our end is that such electronic items should be disposed off separately by the different housing societies located in the cities and the village administration should also make arrangements for its safe disposal.
In this regard government agencies should take proactive steps to make the people conscious of its safe disposal.

While appreciating the author's view, I wish to suggest one more thing in this connection. I am seeing the disposed electrical/electronic parts on the roadside often as it may be due to the pilferage from the waste items collectors or users might have thrown on road as a waste for them. It is better if we dispose such items by putting inside the dustbin kept on the road sides in order to avoid any mishap or misuse.
