Not getting selected does not mean incapability

There is stiff competition nowadays in every competition as the positions are limited but there is a big rush of qualified candidates who try their best to compete and get through. In such a situation there are a large number of candidates who do not get success but they are very near in merit to those who got selected.

So the gap between those who are selected and some of those who are not selected is very narrow. Such students who are near the cut-off limit should not get disheartened and demotivated because it is due to the huge crowd of candidates that such things happen. So they should not undermine their capabilities and try for other exams and other opportunities.

I strongly feel that one should not be discouraged by such setbacks in life.

Whatever the field, it might be, there is no dearth of efficient people and because of their inherent talents and calibers, they themselves make their own positions even in the stiff competitions. There are a lot of job - seekers but the seats to be filled up is limited. Securing slightly less than the cut off points can lead to their disqualifications. We have nothing to say regarding the existing mode of selecting the candidates but let us think of the unfortunate ones missing a few marks to qualify the competitions. Does it suggest their in capabilities to crack such competitive tests? There could be numerous variables behind their failures. They might be facing family issues of different natures which disqualified them from showing their potentials. Under such situations, they should exhibit some maturities accepting the defeat and should start a fresh for the next test where they could get suitable rewards for their efforts.

True. We need not think that we are incapable if we are not getting selected for a post when we attempt the same. There may be many reasons for this. So we need not think that we are incapable. Probably, the people who got selected might have performed well on that particular day.
We will be seeing many matches in various games and sports. The person who performed very well today, maybe a failure in the next match. This failure will not make him down. It will be useful for him to assess his capabilities and he can also identify the areas where he has to improve. The same is the case in the job sector also. Once we are not on the selected list, we should know the areas for improvement and come up in those areas and then you can attend an interview in another company and you may be successful there.

Parents and teachers should explain this aspect to the students and encourage and motivate them after each marginal failure.

The author is right. Many aspiring candidates are thinking like this. There are more than one candidate for a single post. The interviewer can select only one among them though all are equally qualified. They will consider one among them by fixing some criteria.

Only one point is important. We should not think that it is ok, we may not get selected always. From our side, we should put our 100% efforts to see that we will be successful. Even then if there is a failure then definitely we need not worry much. Think where are the pockets that are required to be modified or improved and take action in that direction and then only you will be successful. This fact also we should teach the children. Then only they will be understanding the importance of hard work.

In many cases the selection of a winner is conforming the criteria 'the best of the lot' ; best at that time; first past the post etc.
The losers may fare better at other times, at other contests, at other situations and the current winners may lose also. So a mere case of non-selection need not be taken as a prof of inability or incompetence. Many times non-selection or bad performance may be due to lack of sufficient practice, rehearsal, lack of needed exposure etc.
However if the loser does not review his own performance and does not mind to improve his performance, then he may be bound to remain loser subsequently also. Otherwise a loser can also become winner in future.
