    How was your Sankranti this year?
    Sankranti is a very famous festival in many states of our country. This is commonly known as the harvest festival as the farmers receive the agricultural outputs at home during this season. Irrespective of religion and caste almost all people In Andhra Pradesh celebrate this festival.

    This year we have a very happy Sankranti. My elder son who stays in Bangalore came for 4 days on this occasion. My parents and second son with his family stay with me only. My siblings who stay in Hyderabad came to our house with their families. A good gathering. 4 generations spend time together. Enjoyed the homemade food. My grandchildren entertained us a lot. We all had fun and enjoyed ourselves a lot. This festival reminded me of my childhood Sankranti days I spent with my grandparents in their native place.

    We also celebrated festival in the traditional way by preparing some homemade snacks that are particular for this festival only. Then in the morning we offered some snacks to the birds also on the rooftops and near balcony.
    We have a group of senior citizens here who assemble in the morning and have some time devoted to yoga or small exercises or walking. Some of them brought til laddu and other till preparations which we all enjoyed sitting in the society garden.
    Last year we saw some people flying kites also but this year that activity was absent.
    Knowledge is power.

    Makar Sankranti is our ancient festival which has its own importance in Hindu Devotees. We are the great lovers of this festivals and we want to strengthen our ties with the offerings of laddus and other sweets made from Til. Especially the children like such sweetmeats.
    When I was a child, my mother encouraged me to have early river bath and such type of oblation would nullify the sins committed earlier and we should start our lives afresh with pure hearts. Those days most of the preparations were home made but provided authentic tastes.
