Will ChatGPT decrease Google search engine's use?

Is there a possibility of the new AI tool ChatGPT being detrimental to Google's search engine? Discuss how the usage of this popular search engine can be affected.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasing day by day and it is entering so many fields. OpenAI has developed one such AI tool i.e. ChatGPT. It usually provides in-depth details of queries asked to it. I wonder, will ChatGPT decrease Google search engine's use?

This query has been shifted from the Ask Expert section as it is more appropriate for a forum discussion. Although the query is related only to Google as a search engine getting affected, we can expand the discussion to include other pros and cons of the tool so as to avoid separate threads on the same core topic. Forum editors will moderate the discussion and after 10 days we will reward good responses with points and cc. Naturally, you are expected to give your own independent opinions of this AI tool.

ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI where a subscriber can float his query and will get information or solution or help in a precise manner. Right now it is free but it is expected that it would be levying a fee for use. Experts believe that it would be a reasonable amount.
Coming to the technical part it is nothing new but a chatbot. The only difference is that it has access to a large database that OpenAI already has or gets from the internet.
Likely, OpenAI may be having a dedicated search engine for fetching information through an AI interface, or it might be simply using google search in an advanced manner.
Once it becomes popular then people will start using it. But it will be mainly for focused queries or questions rather than general information. People would go to Google search for any general search and even after ChatGPT becomes popular, Google will probably remain the number one search engine. Google algorithms are almost at the level of AI applications and I feel that Google traffic will not be affected by ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is a chat platform to converse with others who speak a different language. But it is not on par with Google Search Engine. As of now. GPT has been introduced very recently and still it is to be used and tested further to check the robustness of the system. Google is a time-tested front-runner in the field having many tools related to Artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Google AI allows you to customise your applications. This is useful for people who want more control over application works. Many don't know how to use all of the features of Google AI. Chat GPT is for generating human-like text. Google's AI application has many capabilities, including image and voice recognition, language translation, and more.
Chat GPT is used for customer service or entertainment purposes, whereas Google is used for a variety of industries and applications.

I will like to add that ChatGPT was rolled out in November 2022 and right now it is going through an improvement phase. As it is based on an artificial intelligence system it will take time for it to become robust in all respect of artificial intelligence functioning. It may mimic the human brain through logic and other algorithms but it will take significant time for it to become equally or nearly competent as a human brain. In the beginning, there will be errors also, and sometimes unrelated and uneven answers will be given by ChatGPT and a subscriber should be ready for that till more and more improvements are made in this artificial intelligence application. This is an ambitious project and business houses like Microsoft and Elon musk have funded it and so the financial support for this project is good.

If people start turning to such AI tools like ChatGPT for their writing assignments, we will no longer have original authors and the situation will be such that any person would become writers without any talent or potential. Writing will no longer be a passion. I don't think AI tools would be able to replace Google search engine as of now and moreover, the purpose for which it has been created is also, I think, different. I was reading a news report recently which said that an official approached ChatGPT asking it to write a leave application in Shashi Tharoor style. That explains where such AI tools can take us. It will only make us more mechanical than what we are today.

ChatGPT cannot replace the originality of the human - brain. We may say that at this stage, it is the nascent phase but with the progress of time, it could be made more effective with the support of Artificial Intelligence System. However, as far as creativity is concerned, I am in doubt whether it would function in the similar ways or still better in formulating stories and other inputs where a capable writer knows how to proceed with the events to make the contents more meaningful in the given situations.
Though efforts are going on to strengthen this system, let us see its outcome in the time ahead but after all humans are humans and chatGPT would not take us too far in terms of writing creative expressions.

As per the information available on the net openAI has released the professional paid version of ChatGPT. The name of this application is ChatGPT professional. It is said that this will help the big business houses and organizations that are using large amounts of data and information.

ChatGPT is programmed in such a way that one can get any type of answer from AI. Even it can help in doing any kind of task from writing letters to doing school homework. Whether it can affect the Google Search Engine or not only the future can have this answer. However, one thing is sure, it will definitely affect our creativity and our own imagination which we use in our writing. We will only become robotic writers and nothing else.
