An incident that will make us think a lot

We will be hearing a number of news on crimes every day. But some incidents are unforgettable and leave an ill feeling in our minds. The incident that happened yesterday in Delhi made me think a lot.

A student in 12th standard stabbed repeatedly a teacher while he was conducting the practical examination. The teacher was admitted to a hospital and the student was taken into police custody. This may be a single incident but will have a heavy impression on our minds.

Our country believes that a teacher is equal to God and should be respected on par with the parents. In such a country, what may be the reason and whom to blame for such happenings? A real soul search is required, I feel.

A shocking incident indeed though such incidents are reported earlier too. I feel many parents, teachers and students became busy concentrating on scoring marks only neglecting other aspects of our lives. A crime is a crime and there is no doubt about it but we need to look deeper to find the reasons behind them. Criminals should be punished everywhere and they are punished also but what about their reforms and how they will be reformed has to be addressed properly.

Often we neglect many things. We do not know the family background of the student or whether the student was involved in criminal activities prior to this incident. It is also not known whether the student is having any mental issues. If the student is from a family or a place where he has to witness crimes regularly then it could have been dealt with earlier. We will find many look down on such children thinking that there is no point in behaving with them properly and this neglect often backfires. Many of us concentrate on our own well-being and not on our surroundings. Parents, teachers, and neighbours all have a role to play. These are required for the development of society. Society is nothing but a composition of individuals. If every individual is responsible then we will have a responsible society.

This is a very bad incident that has taken place in Delhi. Young people are taking extreme steps without thinking about the consequences. This clearly shows that the young people are going out of control and their family members are not able to guide them on a virtuous path in their lives. There has been a lack of discipline in the average Indian family today. Earlier students had so much respect and regard for the teachers but today the situation is not good and a teacher cannot rely on the students.
I strongly feel that there should be strict discipline in educational institutes because we are making tomorrow's citizens there.

This is indeed a very unfortunate incident. However, I do not know much about this news. So, without going into full details it is not good to comment. There may be a different story behind this entire incident. Let's wait for what police to find out the reason behind this criminal act.

It is really a shocking incident and sometimes such unfortunate happenings are noticed by all of us. These events, though taking place in some locations are definitely rare incidents but reflects the unsound mental health of a boy brought up in a family lacking civilised culture. The kids do observe how their parents are responding in the different situations and also how they tackle the different issues coming up time to time. If the environment of the family is conducive, the kids will pick up healthy trends and ultimately they would represent healthy behaviours in their dealings.
Now considering the behaviour of the boy which the author has indicated in the present forum is indicative of his unsound mentality either due to the family environment or his mixing ups with bad companies for which the family might have not been aware of his involvement., if the boy was in the bad company, the parents might have noticed on different occasions but no corrective step was taken up for the correction of the same. Repeated negligence of such behaviours later become beyond the control for both the family and the society.

Attacking teachers are becoming a common in almost all parts of our country. Recently I read in newspapers that a teacher was shot with a gun by a student and the police are on enquiry how the student possessed a gun but they do not probe about the student's action. As our people following food, style, clothing and everything from western countries , this type of crimes also contaminated.
In tiny children the fear of school going is there everywhere but that fear is getting vanished day by day when the children familiar with the friends and teachers. But according to me, the frustration, enmity against the study, school teachers are becoming common in students are mainly because of the parents. Not all students but most of the students are in such mentality as the parents are forcing them into many activities like education, extra curriculum, tuition etc., They, the parents are very much ambitious on their children's growth and developments and because of that only they are forcing their children to involve in more activities besides study. Mostly the tuition is required only for the 'below average students' but presently every parents engage their children into tuition irrespective of their standards in order to get 'more and more'. This they without considering the children's capacity to bear such activities.

I saw in one house, a mother forced her son who is just coming from school to get ready for tuition without any gap for relaxing and mother is not also giving the children, any snacks or drinks immediately coming from the school.
Such force slowly develops in the minds of children into frustration, thereby anger on the parents and slowly get developed to teachers and school education. This many times, divert themselves into some other directions.

Raising a kid especially a boy into a guy with virtues of humanity and good perspectives is more challenging for parents in this digital era. Not only for the parents of our country but throughout the world it seems to be a major issue, I feel.

The above incident not being a single occurrence, we have come across many such cases here and there.

Both parents are employed at present the quality time to spend with the children is very much restricted. Moreover, the nuclear family system has been provoking a great deal, I suppose. I believe effective parenting alone promotes empathy and kindness towards others, elders, teachers, etc. since every parent is the first teacher, friend, and mentor. The parents should sit and talk to the children and listen to what their grievances have been even though they would have committed any mistake. Otherwise, they would have turned out to be such the above-mentioned elements because of simple psychological effects.

In Tamil, there is a saying, "Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are." It implies the power of influence and friends play a vital role in their behaviour. They have been exposed to various social media through gadgets and especially the preteens/teenagers are more likely influenced reflecting their humane values and beliefs.

These incidents hardly shock anymore as they are getting more and more common these days. What to say about the student-teacher relationship, things are bad even for child-parents relationships. Why the other day only I read about a mother killing her 3-year-old child just to elope with her fiancee. Wonder, how can a mother kill her child? She was some kind of a psychopath or what? And too often we hear about sons killing their parents for property or for other reasons. Coming back to the teacher-student relationship, it is no more the same as was in earlier days. The education sector no more has the halo over its head. It has become too materialistic. Every one of us is to blame for such an outcome. It is at home when we are young that respect for our teachers and seniors should get ingrained in us. But we hardly bother anymore as parents, teachers or students. It is not that the education sector is only affected. Society in general has become too violence prone these days. At the drop of a hat, we are ready to pick up an argument or fight with others.
    Patience and perseverance pays
