Indian Culture is quite vibrant and will stay forever

Different regions of India have their own cultures. Most of these are rooted in belief in God and tolerance of the tallest order. There are some festivals that go far beyond the confines of any religion.

Pongal is one such festival. It is celebrated in at least two South Indian States in more or less the same manner. The day of Pongal is the grand feast day, when Pongal, the sweet dish is made out of rice and jaggery. The pot is supposed to overflow. When it happens, it is believed that God would bless all present and the rest of the year will be one of great harvests.

This is a grand festival when people also visit their relatives and friends. In Teo families personally known to me, even those settled abroad in the UK and USA, in fabulous positions had come to their farm house. The ladies were present in sprees. They wore flowers, glass bangles, and the thilak. They never showed off. The men were even better. They were all dressed only in the traditional dhotis. The huge farm houses were thrown open to numerous friends as well. The grand breakfast had people from all faiths.

This open demonstration of faith and a rather serious attempt to preserve whatever goes on in the name of culture, is always welcome. The two families still have roots in agriculture. They still have a vast number of employees who work for them.

Well, am sure that this is the pattern in the rest of India as well. Hence, inspired of the advent of Western culture all over, our Indian culture I'd likely to survive forever.

I too believe in the same. I feel it is a cycle and old things will be repeating. What is happening today will change and the old style will come again. In the same way, Indian cultural will have its identity and uniqueness forever. Whatever we talk about western culture can't penetrate India 100%. So we need not worry about our culture it will be immortal.
My uncle's son settled in the US and similarly many of my relatives settled there. They all follow all our traditions there without fail Their sons and daughters are learning Sanskrit and classical music. Many kids are reciting Slokas from various epics. This gives me the impression that Indian culture is gaining importance in other countries also. As long as this land remains our culture will also remain. People may be coming and going but this culture will always be there.

Our culture would not die so easily and the same can be witnessed if we see our yougesters living in foreign countries. They would be more interested to visit temples, taking more lessons in our ancient language - Sanskrit and can be seen chanting slokes written in Vedas. Though this trend might be on the diminishing trend presently in our country due to observance of the new education policy but our old tradition is gaining popularity world wide. Hence the old cycle of our old culture would revive again with more popularity in the upcoming time.

The author is right. Our culture and festivals are having some meaning inside. It is difficult to believe for the youngsters that too some middle aged people are confusing youngsters whether such festivals are necessary and wasting our time etc., It is a duty of present middle aged persons to study the inner meaning of the festivals and culture and train the youngsters to follow in order to keep our country's culture. I am seeing many people in India are not wearing anything in forehead but I myself seeing many foreigners visiting temples of south India do not hesitate to wear the flowers, dress of our side, tilak on forehead though it is new to them. Actually they feel happy to follow our practices. In a Mess of Triplicane, Chennai, I am seeing daily many foreign tourists are eating their lunch in banana leaves happily by asking this and that. But we are shifting our food practices day by day.

Indian culture is a very deep-rooted entity. In the southern Peninsula in Asia continent, it is one of the oldest cultures and societies in the world. There was a time when the Indian subcontinent was very rich due to its natural resources and people from all over the places which are connected through land tried to visit here and then buy some of the items which were exclusively available in this part of the world. Many traders took advantage of these items and sold them in their own countries at a higher price. These traders were the information carriers. The ambitious kings from some of those locations invaded our country and ruled us. It was a bad time for our country and we had to live in slavery for quite a long time still, our culture and cultural values remained intact. Once India got independence then people started to revamp the cultural ties and today we are seeing that happening in India in different places.
    Knowledge is power.

While it is easy to say 'Indian Culture is quite vibrant and will stay forever' what is really needed is for ourselves to practice and follow our culture with sincerity. If we follow our culture with self-confidence and conviction in our family first and then in the society around us, the next generation will automatically follow it. Simply telling that our culture is best and still not following it is actually destroying our culture.

The core of our culture is the family. It is the system we automatically follow in our daily life. It is the ingrained respect we give to elders in the family and outside. It is certain attachment and certain abstinence we follow (the vrata and upvas) periodically as well as on special occasions. It is the festivals we celebrate, the rituals we perform and the worship places we visit. It is about family and social gatherings on family events and social events irrespective of religion, language and status.

If we can retain these as we were practising till a couple of decades ago and continue it in our family, then we can be sure that this culture will stay on forever, because it is the most suitable practical system for the human community. It considers the whole universe as a family and upholds unity in diversity.
