Indian Culture is quite vibrant and will stay forever
Different regions of India have their own cultures. Most of these are rooted in belief in God and tolerance of the tallest order. There are some festivals that go far beyond the confines of any religion.Pongal is one such festival. It is celebrated in at least two South Indian States in more or less the same manner. The day of Pongal is the grand feast day, when Pongal, the sweet dish is made out of rice and jaggery. The pot is supposed to overflow. When it happens, it is believed that God would bless all present and the rest of the year will be one of great harvests.
This is a grand festival when people also visit their relatives and friends. In Teo families personally known to me, even those settled abroad in the UK and USA, in fabulous positions had come to their farm house. The ladies were present in sprees. They wore flowers, glass bangles, and the thilak. They never showed off. The men were even better. They were all dressed only in the traditional dhotis. The huge farm houses were thrown open to numerous friends as well. The grand breakfast had people from all faiths.
This open demonstration of faith and a rather serious attempt to preserve whatever goes on in the name of culture, is always welcome. The two families still have roots in agriculture. They still have a vast number of employees who work for them.
Well, am sure that this is the pattern in the rest of India as well. Hence, inspired of the advent of Western culture all over, our Indian culture I'd likely to survive forever.
