Agriculture is now likely to be revived by new entrepreneurs

A couple of days ago, I was chatting with a few people who are employed in IT. Most of them are very young and are employed either in Hyderabad or Chennai. They work with big companies.

However, when discussing their future plans, two of them, now aged around 37, opined that they would go into agriculture in five years' time. They had already invested money in it and their relatives who were formerly employed in IT had brought farms somewhere in AP, around 100 kilometers from Hyderabad ( am not able to understand where this place is), and are happily settled there. Of course, they still have houses in Hyderabad, but these have now been rented out.

They pointed out that growing some vegetables and some spices is now a profitable business, as they have bulk buying arrangements and a sure market from the mini supermarkets.

Is this a new firm trend? Or is it just a case of a few people? However, there are too many entrepreneurs in and around Chennai, now 45 and above, who are actively engaged in agriculture, at least one hundred kilometers from the metropolis. Of course, they seem to have some local support from the farmers. There are at least six YouTube videos in Tamil on such entrepreneurs.

There are many start ups and entrepreneurs who are working in different areas and bringing innovation and new ideas for growth and development. Agriculture is one of these areas where there are many start ups working and finding a solution to the existing problems that are being encountered by the farmer community. Generally, a farmer needs good quality seeds, proper treatment of plant diseases, a good marketing network for selling their items, and things like that. So any startup which can bring innovation to solve this problem is highly welcome in the farming segment. There are some young people who are entering the farming area with a long-term perspective and they feel that farming is having a good future if they take up it in an innovative way.
The farming sector needs support from the government as well as from the marketing network. If both are there then new ideas will improve the agricultural production in our country.

    Knowledge is power.

Many IT professionals are showing interest in diverse fields these days. In those, agriculture is one area. One of my brother's friends was working in a senior position at an IT company in the US. after working for 15 years when he was 40 years old, came back to India and entered the education field. He started a school in Bangalore where there are significant differences from normal schools. They teach Sanskrit as a default subject to all the students. They teach slokas from various epics to students in lower classes. The school is now very famous, especially in the IT circles and many of their children are getting admitted to this school. He is trying to establish a Gurukulam-like institute on the outskirts of Bangalore.
As mentioned by the author some are entering into the agriculture field. In Hyderabad, a pool of 5 IT engineers started a start-up and purchased some 25 acres on the outskirts of Hyderabad. They are trying various methods to get good output organically.
