Why do politicians beat around the bush?

These days the political activity in the country is on top may be due to the coming elections for assemblies of some states and then the parliamentary elections next year.

Various politicians belonging to various parties are coming out and trying to understand the pulse of the voters. Some politicians are trying to conduct pada Yatras to meet the people.
But none of them is directly trying to understand the problems of the people. But of course, there may be some exemptions. This is the general trend I am discussing but not specific to a particular party or a particular politician.

Many politicians are showing a tendency of beating around the bush. The ruling party tries to blame the opposition parties for all problems. At the same time, opposition parties tried to put the blame on the ruling party. But none of them is having a real interest in the welfare of the people. Why is this beating around the bush?

Politics is not an easy profession. There is a lot of competition in that area. Very few people can chart the path for them to reach the top of the respective political party in our country. There are so many parties and so many people are having aspirations to step up the political ladder. Unfortunately, the path is full of hard work and requires pleasing a large number of people so that one can get the vote for oneself. Sometimes such people get votes on the name of the party while at times they do it on an individual basis.
During the journey of political achievements, one has to talk in a very round about way and not tell directly anything which can hurt the sentiments of the general people or even a particular community. Most of the voters are blind followers and do not analyze things logically or rationally. So politicians generally take advantage of the common people's thinking levels and talk in a not-so-clear way so that what they say could have many meanings. This helps them later when they are not able to deliver or perform then they can always explain that what they meant was different. So there is no surprise that politicians behave and talk like that. It is not only applicable to our politicians in India but very true to many other politicians around the world.

    Knowledge is power.

Our democracy is based on popular vote. It is number game. Even a small number tilt can change the status as victor or loser. There is still no perfect formula to gauge voters' minds and make them convinced to vote in one's favour. Moreover still there remain sectors called bulk vote which can be 'influenced controlled' by emotional utterances, sensationalizing issues, announcements of freebies and short term benefits, promise and/or declaring of favorable emotional sentiments even if untruths or unrealistic. Hence the politicians who depend on electoral politics do not want to risk their chances of alienating voters especially the bulk section.
Hence as far as the voters( at least some sizable section ) do not have very clear idea of all matters and truths and can be swayed by even small sentiments and promises and stands, politicians do not take rigid stands unless they know the same is favoring their loyal bulk vote section. In common matters they just beat around the bush.

Politicians generally beat around the bush because it is an easy way to influence people and win their votes during the elections. As Umesh has mentioned it is not an easy task to become a politician, though it may look just the opposite from the outside. Many even say that if you are not good at anything, be it studies, sports or business, you better become a politician. However, it is easier said than done. There are two ways to become a politician. The easy way out is to become a good talker, a glib talker in fact. The hard way out is too hard. It would require more action on the ground on your part and less talk, smooth talk that is. Will also require a good deal of honesty and sincerity. As such most people prefer the easy way to become a politician for which they have to smooth talk the voters and thus often beat around the bush with this and that promises and blame their opponents for all ills.
    Patience and perseverance pays

Politicians are highly intelligent recognising the nerve of common men and apart from that they are good talkers. The talks might vary according to the situation. Padyatra organised by them is definitely a right step to interact with the mobs and the internal problems of a locality could be known in detail and they would try to encash the weak points of the administration in the upcoming time of elections or would keep the opponents under their toes.
They know that they are not to be benefited with the sincerity since there could be many people following this trend and hence the success rate might be minimal. Hence the way for them could be rewarding.
