Re-introducing a very special ISC feature!
  • Category: New Features

    Rewarding members with ISC Badges

One of my favourite features of ISC is the Badges that are awarded based on nominations not just by the editorial team, but also by members as well. Those of you who have been with ISC for a long time will know of this feature and many of you have taken pride in having a badge on your profile page, even conveying your happiness with great joy through a forum thread.

Yes, it is not a new feature, though this thread has been placed in that category. However, due to its revival with a trimming, we can consider it "new". That is, we have reduced the number of badges as we felt some were more or less similar, while others were not really required. Also, we have appointed a couple of editors who will award these badges on a quarterly basis, or renew them after three months, as the case may be. Accordingly, unlike earlier when each badge was for a specific number of limited days, now all the badges (except the spammer badge) will be for the same duration of 90 days.

We hope that the badges will motivate members to continue with their quality contributions and participate with zest in the various activities that are organized from time to time.

So how many of you love this feature and look forward to getting one?

Don't forget to nominate a member, too! Here's how-
    1. Visit the profile page of the member.
    2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see 'Nominate for Badge'. Click on that.
    3. Read the instructions first.
    4. From the dropdown list of badges, select one. In the comments box, please put in one or two sentences supporting your reason for the nomination.
    5. Click on the save button.
    6. Your nomination will be submitted and the Badge Editors will review them and award the badge after due discussions.

Note that you can nominate a member for as many badges as you think they are deserving of, but keep in mind the limit on the number of nominations that you can make in a year based on your membership level (the information is there on the page of badges).

Nice to know that the 'Badges' feature is being reintroduced in ISC with necessary updating.

Recognition and reward of stakeholders is one essential welcome feature in any organisation which can fetch high dividends to the organisation from all concerned. It will be same in the case of ISC also. Even those who do not cherish much ambition on cash and kind benefits also may inwardly have a feeling of satisfaction and pride when the person's contributions and consistent loyal patronage are recognized in one way or other.

I hope this re-implementation of 'Badges' will be an encouragement to members to contribute more and better contents and will result in further growth and revenue of ISC . Lt more members get positive badges.

Very glad to know that ISC Badges have been reintroduced with some modifications. Recognition of creativity and talents of the individuals should be recognised to motivate the workforce of the company. This philosophy is prevalent in the industry.
Going with the same trend, the members would get immense satisfaction if they are recognised in ISC for their valuable contributions and are suitably rewarded with Badges which is indicative the caliber of individuals.
This will go a long way in encouraging and motivating the existing members for their better performance.

Rewards and recognitions in any form are encouraging and motivating for a particular member. So awarding a badge to a member based on the nominations as well as his performance is a good idea.
The only thing required will be the nomination of members for the various badges by other members regularly so that the editors can decide on them.
Though editors can themselves award the badges based on the quarterly performance, if it is supported by the nominations from the member side then it becomes easier and more convenient to finalize the badges.
I hope that the quarterly reward of badges will be a successful activity in ISC in due course of time.

Very encouraging step. Everyone loves to be rewarded for their efforts.

Motivation will be in many ways. Giving money is one of them. More than that, openly appreciating or patting the back is much more effective. So these positive badges will bring a lot of encouragement to the members. I appreciate ISC for encouraging the members in many ways including badges. These badges are being given based on the nominations from the members also, That will provide a lot of confidence to the person who received that badge. But monitoring and renewing the badges after 3 months is also a requirement for which already action has been initiated.

Wow! That's really great. Badges do carry a special honour and I feel members will become quite enthusiastic to receive the badge. Out of the six badges we all will be eying for five leaving out the Spammer badge. It will be for a member not aware of the feature but working tirelessly to circulate something with a not-so-noble intention.

Badge of any member according to their contribution is like a brand of any company. But today , when I want to nominate a member for Badge, the page is automatically redirecting to login page.

Thanks for the alert Phagu Mahato. Are other members also having a problem submitting their nominations for badges? Please report it here.

I can't nominate members for badges. The problem mentioned by Phagu Mahato Sir (#769258) very much exists even now.

I am nominating but when I am saving it then I am getting logged out.

In my attempts also I was failing. When I am trying to save my nominations, I am directed to the login page. I think this is a common problem that is being faced by all the members. The admin can look into it.

    Everyone,

Various editors have checked the badge feature, as also the Webmasters, and it is working fine. One of the reasons for getting redirected to the log in page is that you may have had Net connectivity issues due to which you were automatically got logged out or may have browser caching issues. It is suggested, therefore, that at the momemt when you nominate a badge, just open a separate Tab of ISC and check that you are still logged in. Secondly, you could clear your cache and cookies from time to time to avoid such issues.

An additional note has been given by the admin.- in case you exceed the nomination limit, you will not be redirected to the login page but, instead, will see an error message. The nomination limits are-
    Silver - 1
    Gold - 5
    Diamond - 10
    Platinum - 25

Let us know if anyone still has an issue in nominating a badge after clearing the browser cache.
