Wonder what advantage I gained by going tubeless

I recently had a very bad experience with tubeless tyres. Some months back on the recommendation of the puncture repair person I got the rear tyre of my scooty replaced by a tubeless one. Compared to the conventional tyre and tube I had to pay extra. Things went bad when the tubeless tyre got punctured a few days back. A big nail got inserted and the tyre was left with no air. I thought of filling up the tyre with air and take the vehicle to the mechanic, but to no avail. The air would not hold as the glue or whatever that held the tyre to the rim had come off and with no tube inside, the air simply escaped. I tried opening the wheel, but could not succeed as I didn't have the required tools. Left with no choice I had to ask a bike mechanic to come and get things sorted. He however, collected the vehicle from my place and ultimately got the scooty roadworthy but at some cost. The puncture could not be repaired as it was a big one. The air would not hold. Instead, the mechanic put a new tube inside the tyre. The end result - my tubeless tyre is no longer tubeless. I had to pay for the puncture, for the new tube and a big amount for conveyance (collection/delivery of the vehicle). Add to it, I had previously paid a premium for the tubeless tyre. All that talk of a tubeless tyre being capable of holding air even after a puncture did not hold air, literally as well as technically, in my case.

From the last 4 years I am using tubeless tyres only for my car and my experience is good. My sons also are using tubeless tyres only in their cars and they also are not having any complaint. I don't know why it has happened with the author. Anyhow sometimes some experiences will be bad only like this. Once I had a problem with one of the tyres but we got it repaired and after that worked very well.
However, I feel the author need not give up using tubeless tyres. He can give a try again and definitely my expectation is that he will have a good experience. When I purchased Indica for the first time, I was not very happy with that. But I sold off that and purchased again Inidica and I was very happy with that and I travelled long distances in my self-drive only and enjoyed the rides without any problem.

Generally tubeless tyres are considered better than conventional tyres in all respect. It is easy to repair the tubeless tyre also and puncture making procesd takes less time. Only thing is that the tyre should sit on the rim tightly. In cases when the tyre is damaged on the edges and cannot sit on the rim then mechanic will usually advise us to change it or insert a tube in them. I also have tube in one of the damaged tyres in my car. But all other tyres are tubeless.
If a vehicle is run less then also the tyre get cracks. So one has to keep full air in the tyres and run the vehicle daily.

    Knowledge is power.

Thanks, Dr Rao for your views and your experience of using tubeless tyres. In fact for my car too I am using tubeless tyres for the last many years without any issues. It is only with the scooty that I faced this issue. Maybe because it didn't come as original equipment from the manufacturer. It was after all a makeshift arrangement by the puncture repair person.

Probably the back wheel rim is not fitting properly. Get it checked. If the rim is damaged, change the rim. your problem gets solved. When I changed to tubeless tyres few years ago, the pressure in some of the wheels was getting reduced. I changed all the discs and my problem was solved.

Yes, I do agree that the tyre might not be properly fitting into the rim. However, there is no possibility of carrying out further repairs, as the mechanic has already done the needful by putting in a tube inside the tyre and the vehicle is now road worthy.
